Review 3968: Dolce Roma, Campo de' Fiori

Review by slowtravmrs from CA

2bed/2bath apartment near Campo dei Fiori, Rome

Gloria and Ada - at Alfredo's (and Ada's) restaurant, photo by

June, 2008, 5 days

The apartment (Campo de' Fiori) is located on the via dei Banchi Vecchi, near Campo de' Fiori and Piazza Navona. The two bedrooms have views that look out (across the street from) the church of St. Lucia of the Gonfalone (next door is a wonderful Olio e Vino shop!). The apartment is located centrally in Rome - easy walking distance to many, many historical, beautiful sites.

Nearby Amenities

There are numerous restaurants and a grocery store within 10 minutes walking distances.

The House/Apartment

The building in which the apartment is located is historical (you can read about its history on the web site). The layout of the apartment is spacious (an entry way; the two bedrooms; a living room, a large kitchen, and a balcony to the inner courtyard. It has a lot of natural light, and has very high ceilings giving one a sense of even greater space. The apartment is in fine condition, and the decor is lovely, and imaginative. There are (I believe) three other apartments in the building. Campo de' Fiori is on the 2nd floor - (in the USA, the 1st floor in Europe) - but, the number of stairs did not pose a problem for us (and, my 84-year old mother-in-law!).

There is an inner courtyard with plants - which provides light into the back rooms of the apartment.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was in immaculate condition, with comfortable chairs and sofas throughout.

The beds were very comfortable, the bedrooms were very quiet. The two bathrooms were comfortable, each with a shower. This arrangement worked very well for our party of two.

The kitchen was large, with a table and chairs. The four of us could easily enjoy our breakfasts there. It was well appointed and stocked with everything we could wish for. The Bialetti coffee maker plus the Lavazza coffee allowed us to start everyday with wonderful espresso! One could easily cook full meals in this kitchen, but, we mainly brought food home from the markets, and then followed up with extra, final touches. It was comfortable for us all.

Problems or Bonuses

Many good surprises (use of the owner's cell phone - huge plus; Looking down to the street below from the bedroom windows was fun - the fell of quiet and roominess ... many more pluses ..!). No negative aspects were experienced!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

They were ever gracious, helpful and at our service - one could not ask for more. They helped us in every imaginable way (this was our first visit to Rome). The spoke excellent English, and the price of our stay was (we felt) a real value for our money (five days).

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would be delighted to see Natalia and Walter and stay at Campo de' Fiori again! We happily recommend it to all who would enjoy a two bedroom apartment in the heart of Rome.

Here's our summary we sent to the agency:

Our stay: 5 days in June - 2008

Cari Natalia e Walter, Pamela, Janet, Gloria and I all wish to thank you both, again, for the wonderful stay we enjoyed in your Campo de' Fiori apartment. You made our first trip to Roma such a comfortable, and memorable experience by providing us with such responsive service (above and beyond the call of duty): answering our many questions prior to arriving in Rome; arranging for taxi service from/to the airport and train station; greeting us and introducing us to the apartment and its lovely neighborhood; providing numerous brochures, maps, and guides for becoming acquainted with Rome; wonderful restaurant recommendations (please say "Ciao!" to Ada and Alfredo for us!); providing us with a cell phone for local use - and so much more!

We heartily recommend Campo de' Fiori to all who are looking for an accommodation in Rome that must provide some roominess (two bedrooms, an entry way, a living room, two bathrooms + showers, large kitchen, courtyard light and air). And, note, our eldest in our party - Gloria (who was 84 years old at the time) was able to handle the stairs to the apartment, and loved its openness (high ceilings, natural light in each room) and proximity to local places of interest -- as would any elderly traveler.

We have such fond memories of our stay, and introduction to Roma because of you.

Mille grazie!

Things to do in this area

Authentic Italian family restaurant: (Ada and) Alfredo's restaurant! (10 minute walk from the apartment. See the attached photo of Gloria and Ada who discovered they were born the the same year!). The food was great, and we had a chance to visit with Ada. A truly memorable part of our vacation in Rome.

More modern. Italian cuisine - excellent menu, and ambiance: Pierluigi’s restaurant (5 minute walk).

There are literally dozens more to enjoy - all nearby (within a 20-30 minute walk)!.
