Review 3977: Gorgacce Rentals, Casa del Lupo

Review by Beth C from US

3bed/2.5bath house near Lisciano Niccone, Umbria

Sept. 27 to Oct. 11, 2008, 2 weeks

We loved this area! It was on the border of Tuscany and Umbria, towns nearby, needed a car. It is in the country located in quiet and private area Val di Rosa. A place for quiet walks, several shaded sitting areas outside the villa, ping pong equipment furnished, books shelves loaded with good books! Many good restaurants in the area, several grocery stores, good bakeries, great Tiramasu!

The grounds of the villa had beautiful in ground swimming pool and sitting area. Barbecue equipment. Gardens of flowers. Apple trees nearby. Wonderful scenic area. I am an Artist and was inspired to paint numerous paintings upon returning home!

Nearby Amenities

Cannot walk to stores, etc., but it's a great place for walking the countryside. There's a good parking area for the rental car outside the gated grassy grounds of the villa.

Exploring the grounds of the old church Val di Rosa was of particular interest. There's a nearby old cemetery also worth exploring.

The House/Apartment

The Villa is restored beautifully. All the conveniences of home. Although there was no dryer, the drying racks left for our use came in handy. They worked beautifully, no dryer was needed! The kitchen is great, fully equipped and well stocked to get us started. Dining area is large with tablecloths etc. furnished. Plenty of dishes, pans, etc.

The bedrooms are spacious. The bathrooms are great. Everything is bright and cheerful. We found it to be a "magical place" for the four of us. We enjoyed Prosecco in the evenings in the large living room, plenty of sitting places, good TV reception, etc.

There were several outside sitting areas of interest. I particularly liked the terrace area right off the kitchen. We enjoyed shutting the large shutters at night and securing, then swinging them open each a.m. The place is built like a fort for security!!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The Villa is beautifully furnished throughout. Very comfortable indeed. It was very clean, spacious, and bright and inviting. Plenty of chairs, even a desk and chair in the dining area. We used a scarf in the drawer! It was cool when we were there, but quite comfortable. Never needed the heat.

The downstairs half bath was very convenient. It housed the washing machine which worked well. There is a little half room off this bathroom where a drying rack fits.

Large family bathroom, smaller bathroom with shower off front upstairs bedroom, all convenient and worked well.

The kitchen was inviting, spacious, easy cooking set up. I never used the dishwasher because the sink provided easy washing in basin furnished and good drying area. We cooked in a lot. The dishwasher was nice to have though.

Problems or Bonuses

No bad surprises. Only good ones. Sunrise is beautiful, low fog on the hills, saw some wild animals, a deer type and a hog type. Val di Rosa large white dog came for visits when we drove in, he came to greet us usually, then would go back home.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

David and Dilys own this Villa. They were there our first week. We never heard them come and go, but we visited a few times. They are really fine people. Their son in law came to service the pool and we had a nice chat with him and his visiting father. We regret we did not go to his place for dinner as they offer a wine tasting and dinner opportunity.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

All four of us would definitely recommend the Casa del Lupo to anyone! In fact, some close friends are going this Spring, they are looking forward to it.

I would love to go back! My husband and I are senior citizens but our son and his wife will definitely go back, and we hope to go with them. I just wish I could go there often!! It's like a home away from home, and was truly a magical place for us.

I will be painting scenes from the Casa del Lupo for years to come! The owners have a booklet with recommended towns to visits, restaurants, etc. We did most of this, and went back to several of the restaurants several times.

Things to do in this area

Be sure and visit the Coppersmith in Montepulciano, whatever you do! He will charm and delight you, and visit his shop down the hill from his workshop, where you will find his lovely wife minding the store. We could not leave without purchasing!!

We guarantee your stay at Casa del Lupo will make you want to return!!
