2bed/2bath apartment near Colosseum, Rome

When

January 2009, 11 days

Location

The apartment is in the historic center of Rome, on a very nice street, five minutes walk from Colosseum. The building is in an old city street, the area looks very romantic and gives a sense of the old Rome. Because of our late reservations, we have also used two more apartments (Colosseum View 2 and Campo di Fiore). I provide the review for the first apartment, but everything applies in full measure to the other two. Campo di Fiore apartment was fantastic because of its size and the building that goes back to the 12th century. Colosseum View 2 has a private inner courtyard.

Nearby Amenities

There are a lot of local shops and small groceries, trattorias and bars close to the apartment, and there is a full-scale supermarket 10 minutes walk from the apartment, which is full of very good Italian produce, cheeses, sausages, fish, pasta - you name it! The apartment location is ideal also because it is close to the Colosseum metro station.

The House/Apartment

The building is historical (you can easily put it to be about 300 hundred years old, and may be older. It has (six?) apartments, but we have never heard anything from there. I can't say if there are other rentals there - maybe not one.

Garden

It is a typical city building - no garden or pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furnishing was in excellent condition and in sufficient quantity. The interior is perfectly designed and absolutely clean.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Two bedrooms of a very good and comfortable size and two bathrooms with all amenities, nicely remodeled, clean and functioning 100%. A lot of towels (more than we could use) and a washing machine. There were soaps and shampoos, and cleaning supplies.

Kitchen

I love cooking, so kitchen was the one place I paid close attention to. The kitchen was perfectly equipped so I never had any problem with finding what I needed at any particular moment. There was no shortage of pots and pans, excellent sets of plates, cups, glasses and silverware, plus some spices, coffee, tea, and filters in big supplies, and a refrigerator of sufficient capacity. The stove, the microwave, and the coffeemaker worked just fine.

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment exceeded our expectations especially the Internet that worked. The heating system works absolutely fine.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We made a late reservation, and the owners did every effort to accommodate us. They arranged a driver to meet us at the airport. They speak very good English. The information that they publish on their website is absolutely true. I don't want to disclose the payment, but I would say that it was within the market range.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay there again, and I have already told my friends that they should rent from the owners if they go to Rome. Besides being honest and good managers of their property, the owners, Natalia and Walter, are very good- natured people, they are trying to make it easy and comfortable for their guests, and they make a great effort by exceeding your expectations. They are also forthcoming with good advice and recommendations.

Things to do in this area

All small restaurants and trattorias in the area are good, but we mostly enjoyed our cooking.
