apartments on a farm near Pienza, Tuscany South
WhenJuly 2008, 1 week LocationAgriturismo Cretaiole is in the Tuscan countryside, just outside of Pienza. Nearby AmenitiesThe nearest stores and restaurants are in Pienza, about five minutes away by car. The House/ApartmentThe heart of Cretaiole is a centuries-old farmhouse converted into six apartments of various sizes. The apartment we rented consisted of a kitchen, two bedrooms and a bathroom. GardenThe grounds around the farmhouse are filled with wonderful spots to sit and relax, either alone with a book or with friends and a bottle of wine. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was very clean and comfortable, and all the furniture was in excellent shape. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were very comfortable. The bathroom was small by American standards, but perfectly adequate. KitchenThe kitchen was big and well-supplied with quality pots, pans, dishes, knives and glassware. We had no problem cooking several meals there. Agency and Representatives (and price)Along with the beautiful location, the biggest plus about Cretaiole is the warmth and generosity of the owners. Isabella is passionate about helping her guests come away with more than just some pretty photographs. She very much wants them to learn a bit about the history, culture and traditions of the area. The activities she offered (tour and lunch at a Brunello winery, pasta-making, olive oil tasting, dinner at an organic farm) all showed a side of the area that we couldn't have seen on our own. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would eagerly recommend Agriturismo Cretaiole to anyone. We had an absolutely wonderful time there, and can't wait top go back. Things to do in this areaOne of the most fun things we did provides another example of Isabella's helpfulness -- the weather has pretty hot when we were there, and Isabella gave us directions to a stream in the forest not too far away, where we were able to cool off in some beautiful woodland pools. We were just about the only people there. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
