Review 3989: Vesta Italian Rentals, Casa Miriana Piccola
1bed/1bath apartment near Montecatini, Tuscany North
Sept. 2008, 1 week
The apartment was in a farmhouse that has been divided into three apartments in the town of Lamporecchio. Lamporecchio has no charm at all; it is a modern town with no historic buildings or anything scenic to see. It was an easy drive to Vinci and Montecatini which were nice to explore but one must have a car because there is nothing to do in this town, not even a descent place to eat. The only positive is that there is a good grocery store.
Had to drive everywhere. A nice grocery store is about a mile away but any decent restaurant is at least 30-45 min. away.
The apartment is in an old farmhouse but nothing historical. It is a quiet area. The farmhouse has been divided into three apartments which are in marginal condition and state of renovation.
The garden is pretty barren and weedy and shared by all three apartments. A pool has recently added but it has no amenities. It's basically a hole in the ground with no charm or interest.
The furniture was in terrible shape. The sofa was totally worn out with springs so bad that you sank almost to the floor when seated. It's worn condition is covered with a slipcover. Lighting is awful making it difficult to read.
The bed was just OK. The blanket was not big enough to reach all the way across the bed. It was cool while we were there and there were no extra blankets even though the manager insisted that there were. It took most of the week to get an additional blanket. The corner shower was cheap and leaked all over the bathroom. The hot water was barely warm and, again, it took multiple calls to get the water temperature increased. The towels were worn thin, raveling on the edges and mismatched.
The kitchen was barely functional. When we arrived there was no gas for the stove and the manager was frustrated that we demanded that she take care of the issue immediately. None of the knives would cut anything thicker than butter, the pans were a mismatched and cheap. We only prepared breakfast; anything more complicated would have been a real challenge.
Problems or Bonuses
Problems began immediately when the manager was unhappy that she had to meet us in the pre-arranged location. Without her to follow, we would have never found the property. Then the stove wasn't working. She had obviously not thoroughly inspected the property and prepared it for our arrival.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Vesta was very helpful during the booking process but when problems arose in Italy, they explained away our issues by saying that the property is one of their least expensive and is described as rustic. Our problems were never addressed in a expeditious manner. One purpose for our trip was to look at properties to rent for a family reunion in Sept. 2009. We saw many other properties while in Tuscany and now realize that the price we paid for Casa Miriana Piccola was too high for the quality of the property. We visited several other properties that were of much higher quality for a comparable price.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would never stay here again, nor will we ever use Vesta Italian Rentals again. The apartment was not satisfactory and the management extremely poor.
Things to do in this area
The only thing we did in the immediate area was visit the grocery store. We used the apartment as a base to visit Lucca, Siena, San Gimignano, Pistoia and Montecatini. There are no restaurants in the immediate area worth visiting.
