Things to do in this area

I enjoyed everything that Florence has to offer!!

From September to November 2008, I stayed at the beautiful Poggio Imperiale Apartments in Florence. My apartment was the perfect Italian home away from home. Located across from Porta Romana, just on the border of the center of Florence. Only minutes walking distance from the Palazzo Pitti, and about 20 minutes walking to the center of Florence. The apartments surrounding area is safe, private and more of a local feel.

The lovely villa is owned and operated by a lovely sister-brother team, Clara and Carlo, and the building, built in 1860, was originally owned by their family. In 2005 the villa was renovated into individual apartment rentals. Each with their own entrance, there are two studios and five one-bedroom apartments. There’s a gated entry onto the premises and several patio tables and chairs placed on the large terrace. The great thing is that the photos on their website are exactly what the apartments look like which is so refreshing. It goes to show how honest and professional this duo team really is.

The interiors of the apartments are beautifully decorated in a classic Italian country style with Clara and Carlo’s family antique artifacts – which gave it a wonderful appeal. The apartment was clean, fresh, and spacious and had everything I needed. The heating system worked perfectly and there was plenty of hot water – which I thoroughly enjoyed during those colder months. Also, wireless Internet service was provided which was very ideal for someone like me who was staying a long period of time. Clara and Carlo provided everything I needed and even helped me solve my universal AC adapter issue in 24 hours. They were so helpful. And to top it off, there are laundry facilities in the building as well as a little lobby area for reading material and additional tourist type information.

They offer short term and long term stays and most importantly, their pricing is very competitive. We had previously arranged for me to stay in one of the studios for the first few days until my one-bedroom apartment became available. Which was great that they offered a solution to my scheduled plans. They gave me a few options actually and it was up to me to decide. The move from the studio to the one-bedroom was an easy transition and honestly, I would have been happy in either apartment – the only difference was that there was more room in the one-bedroom but the quality was excellent in both.

Some other things to note: there is a grocery store (as well as markets) just down the street, a bank, post office, local eateries. And each room is supplied with tourist books, maps, local events, various tourist information as well as random reading material.

The kitchen was supplied with everything you need and was also stocked with some basic food items like olive oil, vinegar, sugar, some spices and I even had some coffee! Knowing that Clara and Carlo were available at all times for anything I needed was very reassuring.

I was so thankful to have found this place. I had spent a month researching places on the Internet and knowing the horror stories I was very reluctant to “book” anything. I knew I was traveling by myself so I didn’t want to get myself stuck in an awkward position. But I kept on coming back to their website. I had also found a couple of positive reviews on them, which was very helpful. After communicating back and forth with them several times and they were so professional and pleasant, I felt that this was the right choice. And when I arrived that first night and walked into my apartment, I was thrilled with my decision. Clara even brought me to my first Italian pizzeria to make sure I got there all right.

I stayed at Poggio Imperiale for two months and I loved every minute of it. Please let Clara and Carlo know where you read this review, I know they would appreciate it!

I absolutely recommend Poggio Imperiale! I would recommend this place to my sister, my mother-in-law, my uncle, my best friend, my colleague and a complete stranger!
