Review 4031: Owner, Balcony SS Giovanni e Paolo Square (#4452)
1bed/1bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice
November 30 - December 7, 2008, One week
When I found this listing on vacationrentals.com, I knew it was the perfect apartment for our stay in Venice because I have always loved the area around campo S.S. Giovanni e Paolo. Having visited Venice several times before, I was almost certain that I remembered the terrace of this apartment and how it looked over the square. The apartment is on the first floor, no elevator.
I was contacted by the owner, Sabrina, after sending in a request through the vacation rentals website. She answered all of my questions and helped me make the booking. I was fortunate the apartment was available during my trip because she said that it sometimes rents for long-term.
What a fabulous apartment! It's a spacious one-bedroom, one bath with an enormous terrace overlooking the S.S. Giovanni e Paolo square, one of our favorites in the city! The terrace runs the length of the apartment and you actually access the front door of the apartment from the terrace. I think if I were to rent this apartment in the warmer months, I would spend each day sitting on the terrace and watching the Venetian world pass by.
I was given detailed instructions as to how to arrive and Sabrina arranged for someone to meet me at the closest vaporetto stop, Cŕ D'Oro. I was shown into the apartment and given instructions on how everything worked. The apartment has everything one could need, a good bathroom with a shower, full kitchen, dishwasher, TV, CD player, comfortable sofa and mattress. There is also air conditioning but we did not need it in the winter. The owners have really thought of everything to make this apartment a comfortable home.
We were able to do all of our grocery shopping near the apartment between the butcher, green grocer, housewares store and bakery. There are lots of little bars and cafés near the apartment so we often had coffee and drinks out each day.
For two people this apartment was perfect and I never dreamed that I would be staying in a place, which I photographed on my very first trip to Venice in 1994. The front door of the building overlooks the S.S. Giovanni e Paolo church and there is a pretty relief above the entrance way. That relief on the red building has always been a favorite of mine. I hope we can stay there again on another visit.
