Review 4033: Dolce Roma, Roman Forum

Review by GGirl2 from CT

studio apartment in Monti, Rome

Feb. 11-16 and 21-27, 2009, 12 nights

The location is in the heart of Rome minutes from the Colosseum and the Forum. The location was very excellent and within walking distance to Campo, the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and everything else. We walked everywhere and did it quite easily. Located on the second floor of a very nice, quite building. Though it is located in a busy area, there is no noise, which was great. We loved the area since there were many great restaurants nearby.

Nearby Amenities

There is a grocery store - Elite very close to the apartment where we did our shopping. The store had everything we needed and some nice extras. The Cavour subway stop is steps from the apartment, so if you are tired after a long days walk, that is a great option. Laundry is also nearby and not very expensive. Great restaurants within walking distance, also the best gelato one street over on Via Serpenti. There is also an Internet cafe on Via Urbana not far. The owners are very nice and friendly.

The House/Apartment

The building is in excellent shape. Clean and very quite. The apartment was truly a home away from home. It felt so comfortable and was a pleasure to have on our vacation. Owner Natalia is truly gifted as she has painted the frescoes on the walls and around the apartment. It is clean, with clean linen and towels, very bright and looks over the pretty courtyard below. Also very private. We hardly saw any other occupants and when we did they were very nice and friendly.

There is a nice quite shared sitting area outside. We did not use it, but it was nice.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings are in great shape and there was sufficient of it. Apartment is very clean and well proportioned.

Studio apartment with sliding doors that could be closed if one choose to do so. The apartment is quite sufficient for two people with a double bed that is comfortable and plenty of closet space. The bathroom is great, clean and well kept with nice tiling all around.

The kitchen is well equipped and usable. We made breakfast each day with our groceries from Elite and it was great to be able to get up and have a cup of caffe immediately. We truly enjoyed having it. Natalia and Walter had is stocked with everything we needed to make caffe or tea. There were also jams and pastries for us.

Problems or Bonuses

Natalia and Walter has the apartment equipped with maps, guide books, and even had a list of suggestions for restaurants, which was excellent. We ate at most of them and the food was great, we look forward to going back to try the remainder. There are also numbers for doctors and emergency. They do a great job of giving information and will even call back with the answer to any question they are not sure of.

We had no problems and are going to stay at Natalia and Walter's properties whenever we go to Rome. They even let us store our luggage since we were leaving for Barcelona and would return five days later. That took away some anxiety.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Since both Walter and Natalia were away when we arrived on the first leg of our trip, their friend Stephanie greeted us after we were picked up at the airport by transportation that they provided. Our taxi driver was waiting when we arrived and even had a card with my name written on it. The cost of the ride was 45. Stephanie is great, nice and friendly. She took great care of us.

Walter came by on our second leg to make sure everything was to our liking and even brought a bottle of wine since I was celebrating my birthday on our second leg of our trip. He is so great. Both he and Stephanie spoke excellent English. The apartment lived up to what was published on the website.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I highly recommend this apartment to everyone. Again, it was a home away from home and I will be staying at Walter and Natalia's property each time I go to Rome.

Things to do in this area

Since the apartment is in the historical district, there are numerous sites right in your backyard. The Colosseum, Roman Forum, Trajan's Forum and many others.

Favorite restaurants were: Trattoria Monti, La Carbonnara, Piperno and Trattoria Borchetta, and of course that Gelatora on Via Serpenti.
