2bed/2bath house near San Rocco a Pilli, Tuscany South WhenNovember 1-15, 2008, 2 weeks LocationIt's PERFECT. Out in the country, but extremely close to Siena. Nearby shopping towns very convenient; local grocery store good. The rental is a converted 15th century grain silo that stands away from the main owner's house. A bit difficult to find up dirt roads, but the owner's directions were excellent. Nearby AmenitiesNo, you can't walk for groceries or to a restaurant. There's an excellent grocery store and several good restaurants in San Rocco a Pilli about 4km away. Siena is 6km away. The House/ApartmentThe space was perfect for us (two couples) with two separate and complete bathrooms. The kitchen was big, which was good because we're all cooks. The location was peaceful and calm, which is what we were looking for, but VERY convenient to our favorite city there, Siena. The family at the farm were absolutely marvelous and brought us hefty samples of their own homemade olive oil and nuts and jam and cured meats and limoncella and wine. GardenGrounds were lovely. There's a nice outdoor table and chairs available with a view over the valley and a good light for sitting out after dark. No pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasComfy sofa and easy chairs and a huge dining table with enough room for 10. Big screen TV in the large open living/dining/kitchen area downstairs. Bedrooms/BathroomsIt was very nicely furnished, and upstairs featured two large bedrooms - one with a queen and the other with two singles. Full bathroom (shower no tub) upstairs and downstairs. Beds were solidly comfortable, but you might want to bring an extra pillow. KitchenWell-stocked kitchen, and the owners provide some free goodies from their farm. Problems or BonusesNone. Agency and Representatives (and price)We have rented from Drawbridge many times, and they represent a vacation apartment that we own in Paris. Their web listings are accurate and comprehensive. Owner didn't speak much English, but their oldest daughter did. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Would absolutely recommend - unless you're a family with kids who demand a pool! Things to do in this areaWe wandered all over the area in the two weeks we were there, going as far afield as Pisa and Assisi. Roads are well marked, and you can go far and fast on the autostradas. We were there in the "off" season, so had no problem driving right into Siena and finding parking. It's probably not too bad in "shoulder" seasons, either, but you'll need to take the local bus into Siena in the high season. Owners can give you instructions to get to the bus - stop is about 300m from the property. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
