1bed/1bath apartment near Spanish Steps, Rome WhenApril 2009, seven days Location"Ideal Rome" apartment is located mid-way between Piazza De Spagna and Piazza Popolo. Located on the top floor, the apartment is in a security block and is accessed via small lift. The area is generally active in the day as it's known for its designer label shopping. It is then quiet at night with only light passing traffic and families at restaurants and cafes. The view from the large picture windows is quite extraordinary and even more so at night. We often found ourselves standing at the window just watching life go by on the street below. Nearby AmenitiesWithin 30 metres there is a coffee bar/restaurant that opens early and closes late. The food both am and pm was superb and the coffee even better. Breakfast, usually a coffee and a cornetto (croissant) will cost you 1.80 euro (stand at the bar). Larger meal prices depend on what portions you choose from the wide selection on offer. The service is excellent and Aldo and the boys are always ready for a joke and a chat. The apartment owner, Guido, supplied us with a printable booklet on the apartment which also included travel tips on saving money, maps to local shops, markets, Metro stations and points of interest. The apartment itself included all modern conveniences that we could ask for including washer, dryer, Internet access, satellite TV etc. Our family of five fitted quite well with a double bed up in the loft for the parents and two comfortable sofa beds for the three kids. There was no need for a car at this location, it is central in every way to the metro, buses and taxis. Many sights could be easily walked to. The House/ApartmentThe building is a few centuries old. The apartment itself was clean, up to date and tastefully decorated. Living and cooking were on the ground level with a loft bedroom and bathroom upstairs. There were three apartments in the block all up and we were never disturbed by anyone. The owner lives nearby and was always available (though he never disturbed us). GardenThe unit is private with large picture windows but no balcony or sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurnishings were all good quality, clean neat and tidy. There was plenty of everything for family of five. Bedrooms/BathroomsAll three beds were comfortable, which is saying something when two of them were sofa beds. The small single bathroom located upstairs is adequate though not spacious. Anyone over 5'10' will need to watch their head! KitchenThe kitchen was compact but fine to use. Plenty of everything, stove, large fridge, microwave and sink. All good. Problems or BonusesNo bad surprises: it was exactly as described. The good surprise was the extent that Guido went to in order to make us feel at home. As it was a public holiday the day we arrived he shopped for basics for us AND bought Easter eggs for our girls. Agency and Representatives (and price)The owner is the booking agent. All emails were promptly replied to. All transactions were very professional and security deposits refunded as and when promised. All in all a pure gentleman. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, we would stay here again (and are planning to). No qualifications or warnings. Things to do in this areaShopped, walked to local sites and generally had a ball. We are more than happy to be contacted by email if anyone wants to talk it through. :-) This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
