1bed/2bath apartment near Santa Croce, Florence WhenMay 2009, 9 nights LocationLocated in the center of Florence, at the corner of Via della Vigna Vecchia and Via Isole delle Stinche. It is right by Vivoli Gelato in a historic building. It was on the fourth floor of the building (with elevator), facing Via Isole delle Stinche. Nearby AmenitiesThere are a couple of decent sized grocery stores about 10 blocks away such as the Standa on Via Pietrapiana. There are many restaurants and cafes in the immediate area. The House/ApartmentEverything in the apartment was in good shape. The Windows on Italy website gives an accurate description and pictures. There were two other apartments on the floor we were on, both available through Windows on Italy. There was a shared terrace with table and chairs on the floor. It did not appear that either of the other apartments was rented while we were there. There was a sofa-bed downstairs along with two other comfortable couches near the TV. Upstairs there was a loft with a bed and bath. The downstairs bath had a walk in shower and the upstairs bath had a tub with shower head mounted on the wall. There was plenty of hot water to run both showers at the same time but when we tried running the hot water in the sink upstairs at the same time as the shower there the shower got cold. The Sat TV had many English language channels - news, movies, sports, educational. The internet connection was wired only and near the TV. It was surprisingly quiet considering the location. We did close the wood shutters on the inside of the windows at night. We were never disturbed by noise at night or early morning. GardenThere was a shared terrace for the three apartments on the floor with a table and four chairs. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything in the apartment was in good shape. There were five chairs for the dining table, two couches and a chair for the living area plus an additional sofa-bed. It was very clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was typical for Italy (a bit hard and not overly comfortable). We used the extra pillows provided for the sofa-bed to have four. The upstairs bath had plenty of room by the sink for toiletries. The only complaint would be that there was only a towel warmer to hang the bath towels on and not separate hooks. The towel warmer didn't easily hold the large bath towels provided. Having the second shower was nice when we both wanted to shower before dinner on hot days. KitchenThe apartment had a modern kitchen with good sized refrigerator with freezer, four-burner stove, oven, microwave and dishwasher. It also had a washer/dryer (with the dryer part of the same unit). We tried the dryer and stopped it part way to see how it was doing. It appeared that it heated the clothes to dry them and we were concerned what the high heat might do to some fabrics so we stopped it and used a drying rack to dry them. We were provided with a package of spaghetti, a jar of sauce, olive oil, coffee, sugar and a bottle of water. We were also given enough laundry detergent and dishwasher detergent for two loads each. Interestingly there was no dish soap so we ended up using the dishwasher for everything. Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was very good to deal with, both through email as well as in person and on the phone while there. The web site was very accurate. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? The location is excellent and the apartment was very comfortable. We paid €1693 for the nine nights mid-May which is a bit more than another apartment in Florence we like. Only because of the cost this will be our second choice for an apartment for our next trip. Things to do in this areaWe passed by Vivoli on our way home from dinner each night and ended up favoring this for dessert.
