2bed/2bath apartment near Colosseum, Rome WhenMay 11 - 15, 2009, 4 nights LocationWe stayed in the Colosseum View 1 apartment May 11-15, 2009. It was everything we expected and more. Located on a one-way street, Via San Giovanni in Laterano, it it midway between the Colosseum and the spectacular basilica of San Giovanni in Laterano. Nearby AmenitiesThere were two small convenience stores up the block from the apartment, and although we didn't need it, a much larger supermarket three to four blocks away facing Via Claudia. Restaurants abound, particularly cafes, along the street mainly toward the Colosseum. After a long day exploring the sights of the city, we were pretty tired, so when supper came, we didn't venture too far. We tried several of the dinnertime restaurants in the neighborhood, serving mainly pasta and pizza and we weren't disappointed. The House/ApartmentThe apartment is located on the "first floor", i.e. one up from the street; in North American terms this would be the second floor. There is no elevator, but it isn't a long run up the stairs. The apartment had a larger bedroom and a smaller one, both with queen-sized beds. Also two bathrooms again one much larger than the other. The larger bathroom also had a clothes washer. We felt very safe and secure - the door out onto the sidewalk has a wrought iron grate and the inside door to the apartment has large deadbolt locks that could be used for a bank vault. GardenThere is a locking glass door leading to a very small balcony that provided lots of light into the apartment KitchenThe kitchen, while small, was well equipped with table and chairs, stove top, sink, microwave and dishwasher and was certainly more than adequate for us for breakfast and snacks. Problems or BonusesA real surprise was the graciousness of our hosts. We had seen from other reviews that they went the extra distance for their guests. We can now say that these reviews did not exaggerate. Before we arrived, Walter and Natalia promptly answered all our questions, and arranged for a limousine service to pick us up at the airport. Upon our arrival at the apartment, Walter was there to greet us; he even helped carry our luggage up the stairs. He provided information about the apartment and touring maps and tips. They even had a cellphone (which we forgot) available so they could contact us. When were leaving Rome, to take a cruise from Civitavecchia, Walter had also arranged transport for us. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would definitely stay with Dolce Roma apartments again. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
