Studio apartment near Piazza Navona, Rome

When

5/26/09 - 6/2/09, 1 week

Location

Located in the Piazza Navona region or Central Rome. It's actually in the middle between Piazza Navona and Castel St. Angelo. Great location on the first floor of a very quiet street (especially by Roman standards). Entrance is right off the tiny street (Viccolo San Giuliano), which is only big enough for scooters. Easy walk to all central Rome destinations (a little farther to the Colosseum, a little closer to the Vatican, but easy walks nonetheless). This room is so hidden that even our cell phones didn't work there, which was a welcome trade-off for the quiet and relative isolation.

Nearby Amenities

Even though the street is hidden, there's immediate access to anything you need. Two minutes walk to multiple trattorias/ristorantes, supermarket, tabaccheria (local cigarette shops with lots of basic stuff like stamps, bus tickets, etc), cafes, shopping, whatever you need. There's also a good Internet cafe about five minutes away at the corner of Emmanuale and Via Di Chiavari).

The House/Apartment

Studio apartment with a (really) small bathroom and kitchenette. Though tiny, it was actually quite comfortable for two people who are basically there for a good place to rest while exploring Rome. Floors are all marble, only a small window above the door and there is a good air conditioner, which all adds up to a cool, dark space. For us this was perfect, but if you're looking for natural light or a nice fresh breeze, this is not for you. Furnishings were basic and in good shape, though nothing fancy. Bed was actually quite comfortable.

You can view the property directly: San Giuliano

Garden

No outdoor area or pool in this space.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was clean and in good shape. It's a small place (maybe 350sq feet), but fine for two people. The bathroom and shower are very small, so be prepared for that.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

One queen sized bed - very comfortable. Bathroom is small as I mentioned above. The shower did not drain the first day, but we called and they came out immediately to fix it. Actually, the shower had a leak underneath it, and some of the water from the drain was coming back into the bathroom. I found a rubber glove in the kitchen and shoved it into the hole and it held the leak. Funny thing is that when they came to fix the slow draining problem, they just left the glove there and never fixed the leak! Guess they figured it was a bigger problem and they'd fix it after we left. Oh well, we had some good laughs about it anyway. If you stay here and there's a glove shoved in the wall of the shower, don't pull it out!

Kitchen

Kitchen had two gas burners and a mini fridge. Plenty of pots, pans, silverware etc. Not a big workspace, but fine for small meals or to warm something up.

Problems or Bonuses

Loved the privacy and quiet of this room! Great place to crash after a long day exploring central Rome! It's no Four Seasons, but a great value for one or two people looking for a clean, cool, comfortable, convenient, quiet place to spend a week.

The slow draining/leaky shower was bad, but it was resolved quickly by the rental company.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Agency was good overall. Everyone spoke English well, and they responded quickly to questions/issues before and during the trip. They actually put us in this place after we were unhappy with our other apartment (Chiavari) because it had no AC (not as advertised) and the building was under construction. However, this place was perfect for us, and is actually a very good value by itself (95/night).

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes. For two people who want a cool and quiet place at a good price and don't mind a small bathroom, this place is great.

Things to do in this area

Easy access to many great shops and restaurants within minutes walk. Head towards Piazza Navona and you'll pass about 20 places before you get there - everything we tried was excellent.
