Review 4196: Italy Perfect, Classico Apartment

Review by Glendajane from US

3bed/2bath apartment near Spanish Steps, Rome

June 2009, 6 nights

We spent a delightful six days at Italy Perfect's Rome Classico apartment. We were so pleased with both the location and the size of the apartment. Everything went smoothly, except that our luggage got lost so we were without baggage for a day. The greeter was so nice and helped us call the airlines as we worked to track it down and get it delivered. Once that hiccup was out of the way we were ready to enjoy Rome and enjoy we did! The apartment is on a small street just off the Via del Corso, exactly where we wanted to be so that we were near Piazza del Popolo and the Spanish Steps. We'd just seen Angels and Demons before leaving on our trip so it was exciting to be right in the center where a lot of the scenes are set.

Nearby Amenities

There were plenty of good restaurants and cafes nearby. Each day we would try a new place. Grocery store and fruit and vegetable stand was easy to get to as well. Everything was within walking distance. The only time we needed public transportation was when we took the subway to the Vatican and to the Roman Forum. We walked back from the Forum though after we visited it since we figured out it wasn't as far a walk as we had thought.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was just as we had pictured. The living room was nice for hanging out. We'd buy a bottle of wine and enjoy relaxing early evenings before walking somewhere nearby for dinner. Since we had stayed in this part of Rome before we were pleased to find such a nicely appointed, well laid out and equipped apartment in such a superior location. There was the standard hum of traffic noise, but it was in the distance not in the street below so it did not bother us. We were excited to trade our suburban life for city living for a few days! One of the other buildings residents we met coming and going was very friendly and helped us figure out how to locate on our map a cash exchange bureau.

The room layouts were great. Master bedroom was extra quiet since it faces inner light well. Two outer bedrooms were light, sunny and cheerful.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment is nicely furnished and was very clean.

Beds were fine. They are standard, fairly new Italian mattresses, which the agency Italy Perfect explains in their materials. Master bedroom mattress was on the soft side for me since I like a firm mattress, but my husband said it was comfortable for him. The mattresses in the other two bedrooms were, I suppose, on the firm side. Our friends who we were traveling with said they were fine.

Kitchen was very nice, much better then most other Roman kitchens we've seen. There was everything we needed for fixing meals although we tended to eat out most nights and just fixed breakfast and a couple of lunches at the apartment. Circuit breaker tripped a couple of times when we ran the dishwasher so the greeter had the electrician come and fix it and it didn't happen again after that.

Problems or Bonuses

Greeter that Italy Perfect sent to check us in spoke English quite well and was very nice to deal with. She showed us how to work everything in the apartment and was patient with us when we thought we'd locked ourselves out one day and had to call her. Luckily we found the missing keys so everything worked out in the end. She was so helpful too with the airline when we had to call them to track our missing suitcase. The best surprise was the location, which was even better then we'd imagined.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Italy Perfect was super to deal with. The materials provided covered everything from the check in instruction to how to use an Italian coffee pot and a bidet! Very thorough and funny too. We felt that the rental price was fair. We had stayed before at other apartments in the Spanish Steps area and paid more for what we felt were less desirable, more dated or stuffy, apartments -- the kind filled with uncomfortable, stiff antique furniture. The Classico apartment had a few nice antiques but was just modern enough for it to feel current.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

The apartment was just great for our needs. We had a hard time finding a nice three bedroom in the Spanish Steps area that we really liked. We would more definitely book this apartment again and would recommend it family members and friends. Pat and Lisa at Italy Perfect were very upfront and helpful in all our dealing with them.

Things to do in this area

Spanish Steps very close by which was convenient. We liked walking above Piazza del Popolo up to the Villa Borghese. Had one very fancy dinner at Casina Valadier in the Borhese Gardens. Pricey but worth it for service and people watching. Subway was very near too and good way to get to the Vatican.
