Review 422: InTuscany, Villa Nell'Oliveto

Review by Gary from U.S.

5bed/4bath villa in Castelmuzio, near Pienza, Tuscany South

August 3 - 17, 2002, two weeks

The villa was situated on the outskirts of a very small quaint village, at the top of a hill, overlooking miles and miles of beautiful countryside. The villa occupies perhaps the best location in all of Tuscany.

Nearby Amenities

Although the small village was only two hundred or so yards away, the villa, located in an ancient olive grove, provided absolute privacy and rural splendor. The village offered a small, well-stocked grocery store, a charming Inn complete with inside and outside bar and a restaurant serving tasty Tuscan dishes.

The House/Apartment

The villa had been recently renovated inside and out. Every single room on both floors were beautifully decorated and in excellent condition.

The villa provided a wealth of outside space. The second floor patio overlooked the vast region around Pienza. Some mornings I would get up very early to watch the Hot Air Balloons fly over. At night we would sit on the patio, enjoying the star-filled sky while drinking lots of the local wine. At the first level there was a large patio in the rear and in the front there was an area for sunbathing or just relaxing in the warm morning sun while reading or snoozing. At the front of the property sat an incredible, vanishing edge - infinity swimming pool. The setting on three sides was completely private, among the beautiful olive trees, while the fourth side of the pool opened to a magnificent view that went for miles over the rolling countryside in the direction of Montepulciano.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All the furnishings of the villa were in excellent condition and taste - well decorated, cozy and very comfortable. There was more than enought space for the ten of us to spread out and relax.

The bedrooms and bathrooms were all recently redone and in excellent condition.

The kitchen met all of our expections and needs. It provided us with all the tools to prepare several nice meals.

Problems or Bonuses

Yes! We were surprised at how beautiful the house was, inside and out. All of our expections were met or exceeded. Our group is well traveled and we have stayed in many luxury places. There was not a single complaint from anyone at anytime. We all were blown away by the beauty surrounding us at the villa.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

English was spoken and all transactions were handled in a very cordial and professional manner. If anything, the internet description of the villa understated the beauty of the villa and charm of the village.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

As a matter of fact, we can't wait to return to the villa and Castlemuzio. Our daughter, Kristin, will be graduating from Law School in May. She is busy trying to round up a group to rent the villa early in the summer of 03.

Things to do in this area

ALL the restaurants are good, some are great. I'm sorry but I can't remember any of the names.
