Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 4235: Summer In Italy, Villa Barbara C
2bed/1bath apartment in Santa Maria di Casellabate, Campania
June 2009, One week
The apartment is in a small purpose built apartment complex right on the beach on the edge of Santa Maria di Castellabate - about half a mile from Santa Maria and perhaps a mile from San Marco along the beach in the other direction.
About half a mile walk to a wide range of amenities - groceries, gelato, coffee, restaurants etc.
This is a small purpose built gated apartment complex with 16 units in three separate buildings, each one with its own entrance. It's very quiet. The whole complex is in excellent shape - simply but very well equipped and immaculately clean. Apartments are tiled throughout. There is a free reserved parking place for each unit - very well organized.
We had two beautiful terraces with fantastic views over the sea and over to Capri and towards the Amalfi Coast. One small one had two chairs and the drying rack. The other big one had four chairs with a dining table and big umbrella. (Do note that the views vary among the units and terraces - Summer In Italy were very helpful and accurate in the guidance they gave on this.) It's a very short walk down to the beach - 50 yards or less depending which building your unit is in. Usual Italian private beach - you get two loungers and an umbrella, all kept clean by the beach guys.
Excellent - Ikea style, simple, modern but excellent shape. Open living area and kitchen with beautiful views. Superbly clean. One couch that would sit three. Table with four chairs. Nicely equipped kitchen. Four good knives! (No dishwasher or oven.) Community washing machine available.
Two bedrooms, both quite small. One double (maybe queen) bed with two small closets. Second bedroom has bunk beds, which were fine but it's very small and almost no storage. The couch in the living area does convert to sleep two and was in excellent shape but I think it would be very tight for six. Very good bathroom - all tiled, immaculately clean again, decent size, good hot water supply and pressure.
Yes very well equipped, and we made many dinners and lunches. No oven but I didn't miss it.
Problems or Bonuses
Only good! Far better than it looks on the photographs.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I can't say enough good things about Summer In Italy service in every regard. First class agency.
On site person - adequate English, very friendly and helpful, works very hard and runs the complex very smoothly, being on site every morning and evening, gave us her cellphone number in case we had any issues any time she wasn't there.
We thought the price we paid (€760 I think for the week in late June) was very reasonable.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes! This was our second stay in Santa Maria di C. and our children would like to go back every summer - if only! As before, we saw very few English or American families - tourists here are mainly Italian with some Germans and Scandinavians. Little English spoken in the shops etc. We prefer this to being overrun with Anglophonia.
Things to do in this area
Lots to do and see, historic (Paestum and Velia), gastronomic (buffalo mozzarella farms, culinary (very good) and relaxing (absolutely gorgeous beach and sea).
