Review 4286: Owner, Behind the Tower
1bed/1bath apartment in Pisa, Tuscany West
September 2009, 4 nights
Behind the Tower makes a great base for exploring Pisa and the surrounding area. The apartment is within sight of the leaning tower yet feels like it is part of the real city being located as it is on a bustling main artery.
There is a large well stocked supermarket called PAM just around the corner, and a bus stop that links to the main railway station and bus station a few yards away. There are also numerous places to eat and drink nearby, though as this part of town is quite touristy you may find it better to go a little further afield to sample the delights of the local cuisine.
The apartment feels very private and secure being located on the first floor with its own entrance. It is bright and airy with high ceilings and good sized rooms but can be a little noisy at the front of the building with the road nearby, though to be honest this didn't really bother us. At the back the apartment overlooks an enclosed courtyard and there is a small balcony with french doors.
The apartment is simply but very tastefully furnished with lots of nice personal touches and is generously supplied with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Everything was spotlessly clean and very well maintained.
There is a large double bed which was very comfortable and a sofa bed in the kitchen/ living room. The bathroom is nicely laid out and has a nice powerful shower with plenty of hot water on tap at all times.
The kitchen was very well equipped with full size hob, oven, fridge, washing machine, microwave, toaster etc etc and all the other bits and pieces you need to cook properly.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Gloria and Marcel obviously take a pride in their apartment and in the personal service they offer to their guests. Despite us forgetting to confirm our arrival time Marcel was very understanding and collected us from the airport straight away and made us feel very welcome. As a native English speaker who has lived in Pisa for 11 years he is an invaluable source of useful practical information that he is happy to share with visitors to Behind the Tower.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would certainly stay here again if I was visiting Pisa.
Things to do in this area
A visit to the Cinque Terra makes a lovely contrast to the hustle and bustle of Pisa, and is only about an hour away by train.
