Review 4291: Domus International, Piazza Montevecchio
1bed/1bath apartment near Piazza Navona, Rome
August 2009, 2 weeks
Piazza di Montevecchio is as central as one can get in Rome. It is so small that it can easily be missed when walking in Rome and this is exactly why we liked it. It is central but secluded in a way. The apartment faces on this tiny piazza from the side of the living-room, while the bedroom faces on an even smaller street behind.
Since we are a very active couple of European descent, we loved the lounge of the bar Société downstairs for a prosecco in the evenings. Also, we met the owner of a wonderful contemporary art gallery downstairs who invited us for an opening. There are also two reasonable (although quite expensive) restaurants around the piazza. Grocery shopping is also within two minutes from the apartment.
From what we understand, the building is historical and mainly residential. There are a couple of other apartments rented out for tourists but it didn't seem "touristy" for us. The apartment is in excellent shape, nice and clean (we were told it was recently restored and refurbished). It was nice since it didn't feel like those antique apartments with curtains that collect tons of dust over time. It was just ... fresh and refreshing!
You can view the property directly: Piazza di Montevecchio.
No outside area but the Société lounge was a nice place to sit outside right below the apartment.
The bedroom was white and with a lot of light. I enjoyed the bathtub in the bathroom and the living was quite neat as well. There is a nice designer sofa in the living room that can be extended and used as a sofa-bed. We didn't use it but it seemed comfortable; we worked on our laptops there.
Although not spacious, the bedroom was very warm. But however who needs space on a romantic trip to Rome? The AC in the bedrooms was a definite plus in August.
The kitchen is tiny but surprisingly equipped with EVERYTHING one could need. Since the website of Domus only has one image of it, we were quite hesitant in the first place. But when we asked for more details, they described it exactly as it is. And it is a good quality tiny kitchen. Amazing how these Italian manage their spaces!
Problems or Bonuses
The great surprise was a bottle of red wine that we found on the table, offered by the agency. I told Mirela in an email that I was celebrating my birthday and she remembered and sent me a bottle of Morellino (I now love this wine!). You would never imagine someone from an agency could be so nice and insightful.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Unfortunately we haven't met Mirela personally since she was on vacation, but the person who checked us in was nice and helpful; they had prepared a package of instructions and maps. As I said, you wouldn't expect to receive such a service for a relatively inexpensive apartment.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would definitely recommend Domus for a personalized service for the right price.

Société Lutèce in Piazza di Montevecchio - a wonderful lounge for people of all ages.
