apartments in a villa, Domaso, Lake Como, Lombardy WhenJune 30 - July 4, 2009, 4 nights LocationVilla Annamaria is the bottom half of a old villa in the town of Domaso. You are surrounded by other homes, schools and within short walking distance to the town center and the lake. The area is safe and you will experience life very much like a local. This region is frequented by many German/Swiss tourists. Nearby AmenitiesAll amenities were within easy walking distance. Groceries, gelato, restaurants, coffee. Lake fish is their local specialty. There is a great market in Gravedona (the next town south) one day a week. The House/ApartmentVery historical villa. Twelve to 14 foot ceilings with beautiful frescoes! Wow! Well maintained. Very spacious. Kitchen was tastefully installed not to ruin character of house. Local flavor to neighborhood. Easy to come and go. GardenSmall private sitting area around shared pool outside. Yard well kept and clean. We were the only guests at that time so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasSpacious villa with nice furniture. Clean and well maintained. Very relaxing. Bedrooms/BathroomsBathrooms modern and clean. One bed was comfortable, one was too soft for us. KitchenWell supplied and of good quality. We were comfortable cooking meals in the kitchen. Note: it is tastefully incorporated into the walls behind large wooden panels in the main room. The panels open to reveal the kitchen! Problems or BonusesGiovanni, our host, and his wife took us on a memorable hike to a glacier just outside of St. Moritz, Switzerland. It was very beautiful and they were most gracious sharing their time with us and driving part of the way. He also went out of his way to make special arrangements for us to drop off our Hertz rental car at a small Hertz location in Pientedo on a Saturday (non-business day) and arrange a taxi ride from the Hertz location to the train station in Colico. We were late arriving at the Hertz location due to a missed turn and the Hertz representative and the taxi waited for us. They were all so kind!! They provided a washing machine and drying rack for us to do laundry, which saved us a considerable sum vs. going to a laundromat. Agency and Representatives (and price)Giovanni spoke great English and was very knowledgeable. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would recommend Villa Annamaria to anyone looking for a unique experience in the northern part of Italy. Things to do in this areaFishing, hiking, boat travel/touring, shopping, walks along the lake, gelato, fresh fish, sightseeing, breathtaking views, swimming, travel to Switzerland, garden tours.
