apartments on a farm near Neviano, Puglia
WhenSeptember 2009, 2 weeks LocationVilla Paradiso is located between the towns of Neviano and Tuglie in Salento, Puglia. The villa is surrounded by olive groves dotted with trulli and dry-stone walling, which demarcates the boundaries to each olive grove. Nearby AmenitiesTuglie is the nearest town. You can walk as its not far but with Italian drivers, I'm not sure I would have wanted to walk at night! There is a small but very good supermarket in Tuglie and also at least one restaurant with a good name. The House/ApartmentI would say yes to historical in that it is built round a lovely trullo. Yes, in good shape. Our apartment (they are all on ground level) particularly was very peaceful and quiet overlooking the pool, flood-lit at night. Villa Paradiso has four or five other self-catering houses (ours was the smallest)and a few B&B rooms. The accommodation is quite simple but it's nice - some thought has gone into its decoration. GardenVilla Paradiso is a charming oasis in this rather arid part of the world. They have their own well and Paulo (the owner, with his wife, Luisa) is a keen gardener and it shows! The gardens are lovely and spacious and the villa has a really fabulous infinity pool with rock waterfall. Each apartment has its own outside sitting area. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasOur apartment did not have a living room - the others did as I recall. You only had to ask Paulo and Luisa if there was anything else you wanted and they happily supplied it. Yes, in good shape and comfortable. And clean. Bedrooms/BathroomsBedrooms very nice and comfortable bed. One small bathroom but well appointed. KitchenThe kitchen was well-appointed and we enjoyed a number of meals there. Problems or BonusesGood surprises, yes and not really too bad. I did feel that perhaps a weekly clean without having to pay for it would be better (we were there for two weeks). Clean towels were very happily supplied but we did have to ask for them. The B&B rooms are however cleaned daily. Agency and Representatives (and price)Everyone on site was excellent and mostly spoke very good English. Yes the reality accurately reflected the information on their website. We loved our stay there and were made to feel so welcome by Paulo, Luisa and their delightful staff, Francesco, Maurissio, and Elena (sp?. Paulo brought us little treats of prickly pears, figs and grapes, all home grown. We were invited to breakfast (we had chosen the self-catering option)on a number of occasions - great cuppacinos and truly delicious freshly made, home-made cakes by Luisa. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I certainly do - and our best friends joined us for a weekend and loved it too! We will go back there - for sure, hopefully in 2010. Things to do in this areaExploring. Some very attractive towns and villages and a beautiful coastline both on the Adriatic and Ionian sides. Good beaches for swimming.
