4bed/4bath apartment in Dorsoduro, Venice WhenSept 27, 2009 through Oct 3, 2009, 7 days LocationThe apartment is on the Campo Santa Margherita which has restaurants, a supermarket, bakery, ice cream store, coffee shops and a bank with ATM. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station on the route to the Accademia Bridge and Piazza San Marco and a couple of hundred meters from a vaporetto stop. Nearby AmenitiesRestaurants, a supermarket, coffee, bakery, fruit stand, fish market, bank and a gelato (ice cream) stand are in the Santa Margherita Piazza. The House/ApartmentThe building looks old and unkept on the outside as do most buildings in Venice. The stairs going up looked old and worn. However, the apartment was bright, modern, clean, with new fixtures and appliances. The one room facing the Piazza tended to be a bit noisy until the restaurants closed at night. Their were no other rentals. It is on the top floor and a grandmother lived immediately below. GardenNeither an outside sitting area or a pool. One would simply go down to the Piazza and sit to have an espresso and pastry or a glass of wine or an outdoor meal. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was relatively new, very clean, comfortable, and all toilets and appliances worked well. That included a refrigerator, stove, and washing machine. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe rooms were spacious and the bathrooms large and functional. The water was promptly hot! We had lived near Venice years ago and found the accommodations nicer than we had expected. KitchenThe kitchen was fine. We fed the children there frequently and made a few things but didn't cook any full meals although the equipment was there. Problems or BonusesMy son was being married in Venice and we had cloths and events and schedules to make. The apartment was large, functional and very comfortable. It served our needs very well. We had eight people staying there (three couples and two children). Agency and Representatives (and price)The agency was Venice Rentals. They were accurate and straightforward with the information, description and price (€350/night). Maurizio lived for several years in the US and speaks excellent English and Denice is from Boston. Maurizio met us at the bus station and walked us to the apartment. He was very gracious and helped us throughout the week with advice and phone calls as we negotiated the complexities of a marriage in Venice. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? There were no problems or surprises. We all left with regret that the stay there had come to an end. I would recommend the apartment and the Agency (Denice and Maurizio of Venice Rentals) to family and friends. Things to do in this areaWhat can one say about Venice? It is a wonderful place to eat, drink, talk, visit churches and sights that exist no where else. It is a magical city. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
