Review 4337: Italy-Accom, Apartment Parione
1bed/1bath apartment near Piazza Navona, Rome
September 2009, 7 nights
Located on Via Parione about two blocks from the Piazza Navona. Very busy location but noise not a problem because the apartment is located at the rear of the building. Location was a definite plus as it was within walking distance of major attractions in the historic center.
All the necessary amenities - grocery stores, restaurants, etc. were within easy walking distance. An excellent location to view Rome walking or catching nearby public transportation (bus not metro).
The building and apartment were in very good condition. There was ample space with a bedroom with king size bed; bath with stand-up shower; kitchen was pretty basic but fairly well equipped; living room had plenty of space. Apartment was on first floor (Italian) and there was an elevator after a slight climb of about half dozen steps. The building had a number of apartments but heard no noise from any other tenants.
You can view the property directly: Parione.
No garden or outside sitting area.
The apartment was clean except for the kitchen! Filthy throw rug and a number of dishes/glasses were not clean. We ended up washing everything very carefully before use. The kitchen was one of the reasons we only feel neutral about this apartment.
Nice and comfortable king size bed and bedroom. Bath was fine with stand-up shower.
As I mentioned, while the kitchen was very usable but the lack of cleanliness was a downer as far as we were concerned.
Problems or Bonuses
Kitchen was a problem as noted above. Also our experience with the agency deteriorated after our arrival.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Our experience with the agency was very satisfactory during the planning stages. They were prompt and helpful and we felt very comfortable communicating with them. While our contact was primarily via e-mail English was no problem.
Once we arrived, our confidence was shaken. When we arrived at the apartment, the "key holder" told us that our arrival was a complete surprise, they had no knowledge of our reservation. We had made arrangements months in advance. We did contact the agency by phone and they said everything was fine.
Later we phoned the agency to verify a limo pickup to the airport. We called four times and left a message and never did get a reply. We finally called the "key holder" who verified the pickup. We were not pleased that the agency did not return our call despite assurance on the message machine that calls would promptly be returned.
Rental was €855 for seven days including cleanup fee.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would not stay there again unless the agency could promise acceptable response and assure that the kitchen cleanliness was up to standard. The apartment itself is very satisfactory and the location is great.
Things to do in this area
We walked to the key sites ... Vatican, Pantheon, Trastevere, Spanish Steps and just played the tourist. Everything we needed was within easy walking distance or nearby transportation (bus) on Via Vittorio Emmanuele.
