5bed/3bath apartment near Vatican City, Rome

WONDERFUL! Gregorio Flower Apartment (AKA Chez Nana) is located near the Vatican, on Via Gregorio VII, in Rome. It is located in an apartment building that seems to be mostly residential apartments. So, you are basically living like an Italian. From the small balcony, you can sit and view the other apartment terraces. Italians seem to love their garden terraces, so it's a nice experience.

The area is wonderful -- modern residential and commercial buildings. The building has an elevator and a marble lobby. The door to the lobby is locked at night, providing privacy and safety, but the area itself seems very safe. We had no problem walking alone, down this street, at night, to dine or buy gelato, or to use the nearby ATM (BancoMat).

Nearby Amenities

PERFECT! We were able to walk to several places, right from this apartment. There were several great places to eat -- trattorias and a fantastic deli 1/2 block away. We bought gelato and coffee and pastries and even Gucci sunglasses right on the same street. We walked up a hill, a bit further, to purchase groceries. There are cafes, tobacco shops, and newsstands nearby. There are also many kitchen design shops, if you're redesigning your kitchen, it's fun to window shop.

This apartment is on a divided street with a center section that is a bus stop, so we were able to walk right out of the apartment building and get the public bus to go anywhere we wanted. Because Via Gregorio is a main street, most buses, taxis and private drivers know its location, which helps when you're trying to explain to a driver, in Italian, where you are staying.

The House/Apartment

TERRIFIC! This building is in great shape and was very peaceful. There is a lobby on the Ground Floor. You take the stairs or the elevator (lift) to the 1st Floor (which, in America, we call the second Floor). There was only one other door across from our apartment and we never heard or saw anyone there until the last day, as we were leaving, the woman was outside of her apartment and greeted us sweetly. Outside the building, we would occasionally greet other residents and everyone was very nice.

When you walk into the apartment, there is a small foyer with a desk and a laptop. From the marbled hallway, are five bedrooms, three bathrooms, the dining/living room, and a kitchen. The small balcony is off the dining room and also the first bedroom.

This apartment is immaculate. The owners are very nice and they allowed us to leave our luggage early, as we had arrived before check-in time. The apartment was being cleaned, top to bottom, when we first arrived. The marble floors were shiny and clean enough to almost see your reflection. Every room was beautifully decorated, with a flower motif in each bedroom. Bathrooms were spotless.

You can view the property directly: Gregorio Flower.

PEACEFUL! There was a small, private balcony off the dining room and also off the first bedroom. A table and a few chairs allowed us to soak up the local pace of life. Many garden terraces from other nearby apartment buildings are visible. It really gives you a feeling of living there, not just vacationing.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

IMMACULATE! This apartment was so clean, it spoiled us for the rest of our trip. Nothing else compared. The furniture was clean, beautiful and comfortable. The beds and linens were perfect.

There were enough chairs for our group of 10 and we spent many happy times around the large dining room table. Obviously, not all of us sat on the balcony or the couch at once, but it worked out perfectly, so that everyone got to have some group time around the table and some private time out on the balcony or in the kitchen.

SPLENDID! The beds were very nice, sturdy enough with nice linens. There were several blankets in each bedroom. A complete set of towels was placed on each bed, for each person. There were three bathrooms and I had thought that it might be tight to arrange for all 10 of us to use only three bathrooms, but it was never an issue. It was plenty. The bathrooms were spotless and nice and modern. On a funny note, the shower doors do not open very wide, and some of our group remarked that they have to diet to really move around much in the shower ... but most of us found them to be just fine.

YES! We did use the kitchen and there were plenty of utensils for us. We did not cook extensively there, but you could, if you wanted. We opted for dining out occasionally and also for bringing back trays of incredible food from the trattoria/deli right on the corner. There was also an espresso maker and coffee provided and some of our group was thankful for that.

Problems or Bonuses

The owners were amazing! They even left a laptop for us to use that I did not expect. Thank you, Sandro and Nana!

Agency and Representatives (and price)

FANTASTIC! Sleep in Italy was really great to us. I had so many questions prior to arriving and they answered each email, quickly, and with courtesy and professionalism. Thank you so much!

Everything that we booked with Sleep in Italy was PERFECT! Our driver was waiting for us at the airport with a sign and he was wonderful. He even called the apartment owner for us to let them know we were on our way.

The owners met us on site and they spoke some English and were very nice. The reality was even better than the published info. We paid 25 a night for each of us ... what a great deal!

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION! I would stay here again next week, if someone would buy me a ticket back to Italy ... LOL! I would recommend this rental apartment to anyone -- any group of any size. They can accommodate from four to 12 people. Just watch the shower doors if you indulge too much in the deli down the street ... LOL!

With my recommendation, this should be the busiest rental in Rome ... just please leave a week for me to return to this fantastic place. Grazie mille!
