Review 4372: Owner, Apartment Alba

1bed/1bath apartment in Todi, Umbria

October 2009, 1 week

Lovely one bedroom apartment in centro storico of Todi, Umbria. Todi is a beautiful hill-top medieval city in Umbria -- named one of the most beautiful medieval cities in Italy. The apartment is very well located just off the main piazza close to all amenities. We fell in love with Todi and Apartment Alba. Todi has a wonderful park area with walking trails and promenades. It is simply a stunning city.

Nearby Amenities

The apartment is centrally located. You can walk to the local alimentari or many coffee shops, restaurants in the city centre. There is a Coop, which is about a 30 minute walk from the apartment. We did not have a car for the week we were in Todi and did all of shopping, etc., on foot. If you don't mind the walk and a bit of climbing it is great without a car. Otherwise a car is handy but you have to park down the hill from the city centre in a parking lot, but there is an elevator which transports you up and down the hill to the city centre. You cannot park in the city centre if you are not a resident of Todi. The train station is about 3km or more outside of Todi - all uphill. Trust me, we biked up it! You can take the bus from the main piazza several times a day to the train station. It also brings passengers back up from the station at prescribed times daily - cost 1. There are also buses to other towns leaving from Piazza Jacoponi just near the main piazza - buy your tickets in the pizzeria in Piazza Jacoponi.

The House/Apartment

Apartment Alba is on the ground floor of a wonderful building just off the main piazza. It is very clean with nice, modern and functional kitchen. There is a small balcony off the kitchen/dining area. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking. There is a full size refrigerator, stove/oven and dishwasher. There is one bedroom separate from the smaller living area and a bathroom. Lots of closet space and storage. There is a sofa bed in the living area. The apartment is very clean and bright. Towels are plentiful and extra bedding in the wardrobe. There is no laundry in the apartment but there is a laundromat on the main road down the hill across from the Coop.

The owners of Apartment Alba live on the upper floors of the house. They are very warm and welcoming.

The only outside area is the small balcony off the living area. It looks out over the side street and the rooftops towards the church. But, out the door and one or two minutes walk to the piazza where you can sit on the church steps or at a coffee bar and observe the activities to your heart's content.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment is furnished for functionality. There is a sofa bed, dining table and six chairs, wall unit with books, small table/desk for your computer if you bring one (there is DSL wireless but it didn't work for us while we were there), kitchen area. The apartment would really only comfortably suite two people, although you could have more with the sofa bed.

The one bedroom has a queen bed, wardrobe and small chest of drawers. Large window with shutters for light and air. Bed was very comfortable for us and nice, clean bedding with comfortable pillows. The bathroom is quite large although irregular shape, but very clean and functional. There is no bathtub, just a shower. There is a small anti-room to the bathroom with built-in wardrobe and storage.

Very functional kitchen with good stove top and oven. Full refrigerator with freezer compartment. dishwasher. Italian type coffee makers. Lots of good dishes and coffee cups, glasses, wine glasses. You could easily cook full meals in the kitchen without problems. Perhaps a little more counter room for preparation would have been nice, but it is workable.

Problems or Bonuses

Only good surprises here!! The owners are delightful - warm, welcoming, helpful. They even invited us to a concert in a small town close by our second night there and introduced us to their friends. It was wonderful! If there is a problem, they attend to it right away - although we really didn't have any problems. They picked us up at the train station when we arrived. They knew we wanted to bike so they drove us past the bike rental place on our way up to the apartment and showed us where all of the groceries stores, etc. were located.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Let me just say this. For the location of the apartment, the condition of the apartment, and the excellent friendly response of the owners -- this is a bargain! Their weekly rates are very good and sometimes offer discounts (check the website). We paid around 350 for the week.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay here again. And I would recommend highly Apartment Alba to all of my family and friends. Just remember, if you don't like to walk you will need a car but you will have to walk around within the city centre as you cannot bring your car in.

We loved Todi, we loved Apartment Alba. We cannot wait to return.

Things to do in this area

Todi is an amazing city to walk around. There is a lot of history there. We spent the week and only left Todi one day to bike around the spectacular - but very hilly! - countryside (bike rental: Tuder Bike). We found somewhere to explore everyday without getting bored. If you have a car you can travel to lots of other towns/cities nearby. Train service is limited - to Perugia and Terni - but you could connect from there. We took the train to Rome at the end of our week, via Terni. Lots of good restaurants in town - La Scaletta being a really good one. Plenty of coffee shops and gelateria, pizza shops. There is an Internet point just down Corso Cavour toward the Roman Gate.

You won't be sorry you stayed in Todi - you won't regret renting Apartment Alba.
