Review 4384: Owner, Casa Del' Artiste (#88545)
1bed/2bath apartment in Cortona, Tuscany East
October 2009, 1 week
The location was great! A half block from the main street in Cortona. Please be aware that that 1/2 block was all up hill! Not for the faint of heart. The tiny street the apartment was located on was quiet even though it was close to the bustle of the main street. The balcony off the kitchen had a view to die for! Well worth the effort of climbing the stairs to get there.
One of the reasons we rented this apartment, besides the view, is because we could easily walk to all the shops, cafes, restaurants, etc. Right around the corner was a pastry shop and a meat shop. Everything you could ask for. Did have a problem finding bread though. Restaurants were close and some a few blocks away. All within walking distance. We did most of our grocery shopping in the lower town in a large grocery store we found. That store we had to drive to.
This building is a 13th century building. You can tell because the green door is only about five feet tall! My poor husband had to duck every time we entered. The apartment is on four floors. The first floor is the entry way with a small sofa and table for your keys, etc. We left everything down there that we did not need to carry upstairs. The next level is the kitchen, guest bath and veranda level. Great kitchen with all you need and more. Nice new bath with shower, sink and toilet. Third floor has the master bedroom and bath. The last floor had the TV, DVD player and couch. This was an attached building with just the apartment and the rest of the building on both sides. Never heard anyone else though.
The sitting area was a patio on the second level. The view was the whole valley below. Yes, part of the restaurant/hotel in back could be seen, but there was never anyone out there. The patio had a cover to it with vines that shielded it from view.
The furniture was fine. Lots of old antiques. Bed was comfortable. Couch upstairs was a bit saggy, but we did not use it often. Kitchen had room for six and someone could sleep upstairs, but I do not think it would be very comfortable.
Queen bed was comfortable. Had only one bedside table. Could have used one on the other side but don't think there is enough room. Bathrooms were great. The master bath had one of those all in one shower and toilet rooms. I do not usually like these, but this one was pretty nice. Separate make-up sink area not in the shower.
Kitchen had everything including a free bottle of wine and wine you could use and replace. Cook a little and found all the pots and utensils I needed.
Problems or Bonuses
Just how strenuous the climbing of stairs and hills were. I guess that is the price to pay for the great view. Also, we could not park near the apartment. We could drop off and pick up , but not stay in the area. Had to park down the hill in the free parking lot. Good for the heart!
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Agency (on VRBO but agency was Tuscan Magic) was great. Spoke English and guided us to the apartment.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Would stay here in a NY minute! I look at my screen saver of the view from our patio and day dream. Cortona was perfect!
