June 2005, 1 week

This agriturismo is located in a beautiful area of the Monferrato. Although Casale Monferrato, which is not very picaresque, is the closest large town there are other small towns closer that are very pretty. We loved the area. The owner (Maurizio) has planned out some "GeoPortal" routes for day trips that are very handy.

The agriturismo itself was located on the edge of Castel San Pietro, which was a tiny village. No amenities except a small restaurant we never tried. There was a church so you do hear the bells but they were not too loud.

Moncalvo was a reasonable drive and our favorite town of the area. While we were there we went to the Vinifera, which is held in June of each year in the piazza. We had a great time there and tasted many of the wines of the area.

Nearby Amenities

There were no nearby (walkable) places for coffee or groceries. If you choose to stay here I recommend stopping in Casale Monferrato for all the basic groceries on the way to the property. There is a COOP there. Maurizio grows herbs in pots that you can use for cooking and there are other food shops you will run into on day trips to buy meat and bread. Moncalvo, about 30 minutes away, had some good options.

We only ate out once at a restaurant recommended by the owner that was very nice. But we saw others in the area and another couple staying at the agriturismo reported that they enjoyed them.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was well kept and very spacious for a couple. We stayed in Iris. There were doors with windows into both the kitchen and the living room/bedroom. We kept them open most of the time when we were there for ventilation and to bring more natural light into the apartment.

The apartment faced a small courtyard that you walked across to get to the very nice pool and an outside eating area. There were two other apartments in the building.

We were also able to use the property's wireless Internet from the courtyard but the reception was not good in the apartment itself.

There were several nice outside areas. We had a patio table right outside our apartment and there were also other shared areas.

One of the areas was an outside eating area that was covered by a grape trellis. Very pleasant. This was also where the herb pots were kept. We joined Maurizio, his wife, and another couple there one evening to taste his wines.

The pool was wonderful! Great view, well equipped, including an area with jets and a child's pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was very nice-clean and well kept. More than sufficient space and furniture for a couple.

The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was one of the nicest we have found. It had a separate sink area that was very useful when two of us were getting ready.

The kitchen was well equipped and well laid out for cooking. We prepared almost all of our meals there.

Problems or Bonuses

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owners were very helpful. Maurizio spoke English and is very passionate and knowledgeable about the area and the wines of the area.

The website is helpful and accurate.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay here again. The property and the area were exactly what we were looking for and the owners were nice and knowledgeable.
