2bed/1bath apartment near Piazza Navona, Rome WhenApril 2010, 1 week LocationExcellent location in central Rome. Two minutes walk to Piazza Navona - another five minutes to the Pantheon - five more to the Trevi Fountain. Colosseum a longer walk but possible. St Peter's and the Vatican about 20 minutes walk. Nearby AmenitiesCarrafours supermarket only a few minutes walk away - good size with all basic needs available at reasonable prices. Many cafes to choose from from 'bar style' to restaurants. The House/ApartmentA charming building (late 1800s?). Very peaceful despite being in so central. Fairly recent addition of double-glazed windows made for quiet apartment - well insulated too. Apartment was on top floor (4th) with no lift. Stairs were reasonable steep but with wide treads. Our 9 & 12 year old girls had no trouble. Layout unusual with bedrooms off the small kitchen. Not really a problem though. GardenNo garden. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasDining chairs a little rickety but most were serviceable. Lounge chairs fine. Bedrooms/BathroomsBed were firm but comfortable - one double & two singles. Pillows OK. Sofa-bed in lounge (not used). Bathroom a little dank and hot water inconsistent - could be a problem if there in winter. KitchenNot good for cooking a complicated meal, but serviceable for basics. We prepared most evening meals at home. Four-burner gas stove (but one didn't work) - oven not working - no microwave. Problems or BonusesNo Agency and Representatives (and price)Sleep in Italy very good to deal with. We rang them directly from Australia and got very helpful service. Owner of apartment lives in the building on the second floor and was friendly and helpful. He let us in early on our arrival day. At around €900 for six nights, we thought this was good value. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would recommend this to friends and would stay here again. Family friendly so long as you're fit enough for the stairs and not put off by the dated bathroom. Make sure you bring all of your essentials (including toilet paper, washing up detergent etc as none is provided). Things to do in this areaEverything you want to do in Rome you can do from here. We only caught public transport on one day - walked the rest. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
