2bed/2bath house in Gualdo Tadino, Umbria WhenArpil 2010, two weeks LocationThe apartment was in a small town in the Umbrian countryside. Nearby AmenitiesThe town was large enough that it had everything we needed even an Internet site. We could walk to the grocery shop, the coffee shop, the pasta shop, there was also a small bar in town that was in walking distance. The House/ApartmentThe building was built in 1280 so yes I guess that you could say that it was historical, and it was in very good shape. We found the apartment to be roomy, and very neat and clean. It was great to be able to shop for food and come back and cook in a well stocked kitchen. GardenThe apartment is in town so there is no outside area or swimming pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in good shape and the apartment was very clean upon arrival. There were four of us sharing the apartment and we even met some local and invited them to dinner one night so yes there was plenty of room and plenty of chairs. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable, our room had a queen size bed and there were two bathrooms for four people which served us fine. KitchenThe kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans and cooking utensils. There was plenty of dishes. We rented the apartment for two weeks and cooked breakfast and dinner every day. Problems or BonusesThe experience we had was even better that we had hoped for. It was our first trip to Italy and what we wanted most of all was to experience the food. The Umbrian countryside that the apartment is located in is the perfect location for that, and the town itself is not so very small that there are no amenities there. We had everything we needed, even and Internet store. Agency and Representatives (and price)We dealt with the owner directly. The on site person did not speak any English, but we spoke Italian so we got along well. The place was just as advertised. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend this place to friends and family with one caveat. Study your Italian, it will improve your trip immeasurably. Things to do in this areaEvery day we would travel to a nearby town. We would do some sightseeing and have a pleasant lunch. One of our favorite restaurants was right in Gualdo Tadino, Albergo Bottaio. We were there for Easter Sunday and had a fixed price dinner. An 11 course dinner( three pasta courses alone) for €30 per person including two bottles of wine, and the food was excellent. If you planned ahead you can find out when market day is in each of the surrounding towns. For example market day in Gualdo Tadino was Thursday, in nearby Gubbio it was Tuesday. These are open air markets and sell everything from pork sandwiches to clothing and hardware. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
