Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 4565: San Potente, Villa Rosy
apartments in converted farm house near Assisi, Umbria
May 15 - 18th, 3 nights
The house is located in a charming location, very romantic and green. The whole area is beautiful and it is easy to go on day trips from the area.
The house is isolated, you must drive to buy food or to go out, there is nothing nearby, which is actually a good thing.
The place is an historical house, separated to several apartments with a swimming pool. We were the only couple there so it was quite at the time.
The was an olive grove outside and it was private, there was also a pool.
The house was kept clean and in good shape.
The beds were fine and there were hot water.
Kitchen was fine , we did not use it, but it was in good shape for cooking full meals.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Our contact with Paolo (the owner) was only via e-mail before our arrival and we got the impression he was a really nice person. We were very wrong.
May this year (2010) has being very cold (most likely due to the ash cloud), it was dumpy and rainy. Saturday when we arrived to the place was the coldest day and night (below 10C/50F).
Despite that when we arrived the apartment was ice cold, the heating was not turned up before our arrival. Normally we would not care since I'd hate to waste energy. Unfortunately , heating the place is done using water radiators, and they work, but as any owner of those devices will tell you, it takes them quite some time to heat, especially when temperatures are so low and they need to heat up a large area.
It was so cold, we went covered in blankets and tried to sleep, hoping for the place to heat up so we can actually use it.
Telling Paolo that the place was cold, he replied that it is not cold!
Only after seven hours, the place was hot enough and comfortable.
The next day, it was very cold out, and we left the thermostat at 20C/68F degrees so the apartment is kept warm, since it takes a long time for radiators to hear the place up.
When we got back around 18:00 , the apartment was very cold again, We could not believe our own eyes: Paolo went in when we were gone, and without even telling us, turned the heat down all the way to 14C/52F!
Again - it took hours for the place to get warm.
The next day, AGAIN! After we left the place Paolo went in and turned the heat down to 59F.
Even without the owner being rude, the apartment does not have any proper means to stay warm during cold nights, it is only good during the summer season.
We found Paolo to be a very rude person, not only because of what he did without even telling us, but his whole conduct was impolite and he gave us the feeling he could not wait to have us gone. There was a cake waiting for us on the table but it was covered with ants , he took it, and said he would bring another one the day after, but never bothered to do so.
We came to Villa Rosy after staying in a wonderful place in Tuscany, which I will not mention here (will write a review about it very soon). The owner there was amazing, helped us a lot and took all the time to make sure we get the most out of our vacation. We could not understand why would Paolo be so rude to us.
