Review 4587: Feel Home in Rome, Sunflower Apartment
1bed/1bath apartment in Trastevere, Rome
May 21 to May 26, 2010, 5 nights
I know Rome well and knew Trastevere would be noisy, so I was prepared for that.
Coffee, groceries, etc. are all very close.
Small one-bedroom, rather spare. Doors are covered with graffiti which might put some people off. Plumbing etc worked fine, but oven and TV did not.
Outside sitting area was a bit dirty from pigeons.
Clean, furniture was fine.
Some people in the guest book complained the bed was uncomfortable. It was certainly not luxurious but I thought it was fine.
The kitchen is not stocked with anything other than salt and there are only enough plates etc for probably two people. The bottle of dish soap provided was empty! For the price I would think they could supply some dish soap. I also had to buy more toilet paper while I was there.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The apartment itself was OK, if a bit spare, but there were a few things the agency could have done to make renting it a more positive experience. However, I got annoyed by the lack of response to my emails about my arrival time. I finally got an email three days before my departure telling me to call a half hour before my arrival. On arrival, tired after a 14-hour trip from the US, I had to call both numbers repeatedly from a pay phone, and would either get no answer or a busy signal. After about 20 minutes of dialing repeatedly, I finally got a hold of someone, who told me she couldn't meet me for an hour and a half, so I cooled my heels with my huge bag (not easy to drag on cobblestones) for that time. I know some people have a more relaxed view of time but it is not really acceptable in this context. That, and the fact that the TV or the oven didn't work, really soured me on this agency. I won't use them again.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Nope. See previous comments about the lack of responsiveness from the agency. This and the small things broken about the apartment made me think it was overpriced, despite the location.
Things to do in this area
Good restaurant around the corner, Da Augusto. It's very basic and no-frills but good--a real Roman osteria.
