1bed/1bath apartment in Malfa, island of Salina, Sicily WhenApril to June 2010, 8 weeks LocationCasa Lemon is in the town of Malfa on the island of Salina, one of the Aeolian islands. The house overlooks the harbour of Scalo Galera, and has a view towards the islands of Stromboli and Panarea. It's in a row of other houses, all of which seem to be second or holiday homes. The area is quiet though there is a fair bit of coming and going during the day. The house is on the main road, Via Roma. Nearby AmenitiesThe main square of the town of Malfa was a fairly steep uphill walk of about ten minutes. There is a supermarket and other shops, also several restaurants. The House/ApartmentIt is a typical Aeolian house, converted into about five apartments, all bookable through Eoliando. Casa Lemon is a small one-bedroom apartment, with a bathroom, kitchen area, sitting area and an outside terrace overlooking the harbour. The furniture and fittings are good quality. You entered the apartment up some steps from the road and then through the terrace. GardenThere was a small terrace with table and chairs. If the other apartments were booked at the same time it might be a bit overlooked. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasEverything was clean, in good condition and of good quality. There were four dining chairs and a table inside and a table and three chairs outside. Bedrooms/BathroomsUpstairs, the only bedroom was furnished with good quality items. There was a double bed with a comfortable mattress. The apartment had one bathroom, which was downstairs, though there was also a wash-basin in the bedroom. Downstairs, the sofa could be used as a single bed if needed. KitchenThe kitchen area had a hob (aka stove) with two electric rings for cooking, which was adequate. There were plenty of pans and cutlery, fairly new and of good quality. Problems or BonusesThe location was a bit further from the town than I expected. But the view to the cliffs nearby was unexpected and lovely in the evenings at sunset. Agency and Representatives (and price)I only communicated with the agency and the owner in Italian. As I booked for eight weeks in the spring season I got a good deal, paying €1900 for the apartment which was a discount of about 20%. Overall, the apartment was exactly as advertised and a good deal. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would recommend this apartment for people wanting to have a quiet time on this beautiful island. Things to do in this areaI did a lot of walking. Malfa is well placed in the centre of the island, for access to the other villages on foot and by bus. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
