Review 4688: San Potente, Villa Rosy

Review by sealights from US

apartments in converted farm house near Assisi, Umbria

May 22, 2010 , one week

We choose Villy Rosy after reading the wonderful reviews it has received on this site and the location being right outside Assisi was so central to all we wanted to see in Umbria. Villa Rosy has two apartments in the Villa and we stayed in Magnolia the smaller of the two. The Tonti family who own the villa are the most caring and amazing hosts. You feel you are a real part of the family. The apartment far exceeded our expectations and captured our hearts from the moment we drove up the long driveway surrounded by 2000 olive trees, gardens and rose bushes in full bloom and see the Basilica of St Francis of Assisi off to your left. The rooms were large and very comfortable for our week stay. They have a separate building with a clothes washer which is free. We so enjoyed using the outside patio's for meals and sitting on the stone bench half way up the driveway and gazing at Assisi is a memory not to be forgotten. When the birds sung each morning I truly felt that St Francis was right outside my window with his outstretched arms. If you stay at this wonderful place be sure to join the family at their place in Resgelia for an afternoon of leaning the ancient art of looming and then joining the family for an Umbrian dinner.

Nearby Amenities

Rivotorto would be about a 15 minute walk and here you find a small store and some places to eat. We preferred to drive into Santa Maria degli Angeli less than 10 minutes away where we found many places we loved to eat. Rivitorto is right off the highway so getting to other Umbria towns is extremely easy. If you turn right out of the driveway you are on the small unused road that in minutes ends in one of the parking lots for Assisi.

You will not find a place with better outside accommodations ... many different sitting areas and trellis covered patios, large pool, plenty of chairs and loungers. Both apartments share these facilities but there is more than enough room.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Apartments are in great shape, clean and the beds extremely comfortable. I never slept better. Towels were changed mid week.

Problems or Bonuses

Exceeded all expectations ... on arrival we found many goodies awaiting us: fresh eggs from then chickens, delicious home made cake, a bottle of their olive oil, a bottle of local wine, jam and coffee.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Paulo the owner met us on arrival and we paid the balance due on our credit card as planned. He speaks passable English and we do not speak Italian but had not trouble understanding each other.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

In a heart beat ... already planning for 2012 and will most likely encourage family and friends to join us and we will rent the entire property.

Things to do in this area

On two days we hired Gianlucca from Umbria Driver to take us one day to the Piano Grande (a must if in Umbria) and another day to Todi and Orvieto.
