Vacation rentals in Italy (villas, farms, estates, agriturismo, apartments)
Review 4696: Villa Nuba, Del Bonfigli
apartments on the outskirts of Perugia, Umbria
Summer 2010, One Week
Located in Strada Eugubina, Monteluce, in a villa overlooking Perugia and valley outside. Location was the best of both worlds as you felt like you were out in the countryside yet it was only a fifteen minute walk to reach the gate leading into the old medieval city. Very quiet private location with electronic gates.
Five minute walk to the nearest supermarket. About ten minutes walk to a large bar which served drinks sandwiches, very nice pastisserie quite near this and a very tasty pizza shop. Bus stop with a frequent service only 400 metres away.
Attached to the owners villa, three separate apartments. Our apartment was at the rear but very nicely designed. Recently fitted out but in an old style, especially in the bedroom which featured a number of antiques. Apartment was very quiet and cool all the time(even though the temperatures were in the high 30s when we stayed).
Table and chairs outside with shaded canopy, where you could sit and have breakfast or lunch, also sun loungers, table tennis table etc. The area was private.
The pool was fantastic, one of the best I have swam in, due to the fact it used salt instead of chlorine, with the water temperature nearly always perfect. Nice area to sit or sunbathe around the pool combined with a beautiful view of the valley just outside Perugia and the hills in the distance. Pool only about twenty metres from the front door of the apartment. Also access to the Internet and if the weather was bad, (thankfully not while we were there), a drier to dry laundry.
Furniture in very good shape, apartment was spotless with plenty of chairs to sit around on.
Extremely comfortable beds, nicely decorated bedroom, always cool and quiet at night. One large bathroom with a jacuzzi, which my daughter fell in love with. Very spacious bathroom with a small room with a washing machine, ironing board and sink just before the bathroom.
Kitchen was perfect for cooking although we didn't cook any full meals. Plenty of utensils etc., double sink very handy for washing up. Cooker, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, dishwasher etc. in kitchen area. Handy to pop in from the pool and get a cool drink or have a cup of coffee.
Problems or Bonuses
Giuseppe the owner met us on arrival and gave us plenty of suggestions for places to see in Perugia and near Perugia. He also arranged horse riding lessons for us, which were very enjoyable. Upon arrival he gave us a guided tour around the locality in his car, showing us bus stops, shops, entrances to Perugia old town, restaurants etc. He then dropped us to the local supermarket and waited for us while we purchased heavy items i.e. bottles of water, drinks etc.
He was very friendly and always stopped for a chat if we met him in the grounds of the villa. He is available for a number of hours a day if you have any queries or problems, or if you want him to get any information for you. His wife also lives on the property and is very nice and spoke fluent English.
Another nice surprise was the owners two very friendly cats who took an instant liking to my daughter. She was thrilled as we don't have any pets at home. They were more like dogs as they came up to you looking for a pet or just followed you around to keep you company.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Very quick response to any e-mails, Giuseppe speaks fluent English. Very thorough description of what is included in the apartment. No surprises or hidden extras, as Giuseppe says himself and this is much appreciated. He was excellent to deal with, I would recommend this apartment to our friends and family. Apartment lived up to the description on the website and the pictures shown, if anything it was much better and more spacious than expected. Prices vary, we stayed in the high season, it was €140 per night and we felt that this was excellent value compared to hotels etc.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely, we would stay there again without hesitation. Probably the nicest apartment we have rented. We did not drive, so be aware that your fitness level will increase when walking around Perugia (as it can be quite steep in parts!). If you don't feel like walking then there is a regular bus about 400 metres down the road.
Things to do in this area
Centro Storico was lovely in Perugia, also just walking around the narrow streets in medieval Perugia. Went to Assissi for a day trip, very picturesque. Also went horse riding, which was very enjoyable. Visited some exhibitions in the National Gallery. Perugia has an excellent bus service and a good rail connection, so it is easy to reach and also to visit other towns nearby.
Favourite restaurant was Osteria La Lumera where we had three excellent dinners. Local produce, very friendly staff who explained patiently in English when our limited Italian couldn't understand some of the courses on the menu. Also it had some very nice local wines on the wine list. Try the desserts especially their version of an apple tart,(a work of art in itself).
