Review 4724: Venice Rentals, Palazzo Fontana
4bed/4bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice
2010, 4 days
The location was perfect for Venice. We were a few steps to the water taxi stop, right in the middle of wonderful restaurants, shopping, tourist attractions, grocery store, etc.
We could walk to restaurants, bars, grocery store and bakery. About 2 doors down was a great place for pastry and coffee every morning.
The rental agency says it best and this description is understated. It is actually better than the description and pictures.
"This incredible palace was built at the end of the 16th century by the pupils of Renaissance architect Jacop Sansovino. The future Pope Clement XIII was born in this palazzo in 1693. The palace is over 4,000 square feet, with 20 foot ceilings and has the utmost breathtaking views you could possibly ask for in Venice, directly overlooking the Grand Canal from its prestigious floor, the piano Nobile. The windows overlooking the Grand Canal are enormous and stretch from floor to ceiling and boast a viewing terrace from each one. This palace is a very special and rare home in Venice and has been captured in several important magazines and articles regarding this historical home."
"The incredible living room and entrance foyer are extremely grand and offer incredibly high ceilings with frescoes and stucco reliefs, a fireplace, exceptional views, plenty of seating for a large family with 19th century Venetian furniture. You will feel like you are stepping back in time to the Renaissance period of Venetian grandeur. The living area is bright and comfortable with a long viewing terrace spanning the entire room over the Grand Canal. There are four beautiful bedrooms, the most wonderful being the Grand Suite, boasting wonderful views of the Grand Canal from two sides of the room. There is an en suite bathroom with bathtub off of this bedroom The second and third bedrooms both are very tastefully decorated, have Grand Canal views and share a bathroom. They both are fitted with two twin beds in each room, one with a library and armoires. They both have Grand Canal views over the garden to the side of the palace. The fourth bedroom is a queen bedded room with a brand new en-suite bathroom. This is a smaller bedroom and a bit more simple than that of the other three. The last bedroom is considered a bonus room and ideal for children or a nanny as it has just one small window and is mansard style with lower ceilings and is very simple decorated."
"The kitchen is a galley style smaller kitchen with dishwasher, refrigerator and all pots and pans etc. The dining room is ideal for a family of six to eight persons and has plenty of table settings for this purpose. There is a washing machine and a dryer in this palace. There is an elevator, air conditioners, telephone and lots of amenities with this home. There is also the option to have a cook, maid and also taxi pick up service all for a fee."
This palace is located near the Ca'Doro vaporetto stop, just a three minute walk away. There are plenty of cafes, restaurants, and shopping within a few minutes walk of this home. There is literally no noise to be heard while inside this palazzo, making sleeping easy. The Casino, Rialto open air market, and supermarket also all within a few minutes of this palace. This incredible palace is ideal for a party of eight looking for the most opulent style of living like Venetian royalty."
The apartment was actually prettier than the pictures in the website.
The outside area was a balcony overlooking the Grand Canal.
The furniture was very nice; lots of antiques and beautiful marble floors and glass chandeliers. There was more than ample sitting place for our entire group of nine - very comfortable. The entire apartment was very clean and well taken care of. I cannot think of anything negative to say about this apartment.
The beds were very comfortable, with nice bed linens. The bedrooms were very large and the bathrooms were very large and well equipped. Having five bedrooms (the fifth being a small single) and four full bathrooms was more than enough.
The kitchen was small compared to the rest of the apartment; however, it was large enough if you did want to prepare meals. It was well equipped and included a dishwasher. We had a dining room and also a breakfast area for smaller meals.
Problems or Bonuses
The only surprise was that the apartment was more beautiful and wonderful than I had ever expected. If going back to Venice tomorrow I would stay in the same apartment. And the location could not have been more convenient.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I have nothing but praise for the rental agency personnel. It is a husband/wife team. They are first class in every area of their business. We communicated frequently with me during my apartment selection process, always promptly answered every email I sent asking questions about the rental and Venice in general. They advised everything we needed to know about the area. We were sent thorough directions for travel to Venice, exactly what to do as we entered the city, returned rental car and boarded public transportation to the apartment. Maurizio (agent) even called during the morning as we were traveling from Tuscany to Venice to check our estimated arrival time to be sure he was right there when we arrived. He told me exactly where to buy water taxi tickets, which taxi to take, and he was waiting for us when we arrived. He took us to the apartment, showed us around, gave info about the area, told us where the grocery store was and left his cell phone number in case we needed his assistance with anything while in Venice. He was most gracious and kind and spoke perfect English.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
If going to Venice tomorrow I would stay in this apartment. I have recommended it to friends. When I travel I only like first class hotels etc. and this was the finest. I loved working with Denise and Maurizio of Venice Rentals. They were wonderful. I would trust anything they told me about their rentals. I think anyone would appreciate their knowledge and expertise of the area.
