Review 4779: Rentvillas, Casa Fiorenza
2bed/2bath villa in Praiano, Campania
September 4-11, 2010, 7 days
We stayed for a week in Villa Fiorenza, a lovely, gracious and very comfortable villa on the Amalfi Coast on the mountainside in Praiano. The view out of every single window or door was absolutely breathtaking. We were within easy driving or bus trip distance of all of the coastal towns; each has its own character and is well worth checking out.
Praiano is within walking distance provided you don't mind climbing either up or down hills and stairs - many, many stairs. It is alongside many homes that are built on the hill and it was both very private and quite close to other homes.
The nearest grocery store is Tutti & Tutti, just a few minutes walk down (and back up) the hill and fabulous! As the friendly gentleman at the back of the store behind the meat and cheese counter for his recommendations and you can't go wrong. We asked for some fresh basil (basilico) one evening as we were buying groceries for dinner. The man behind the cash register ran out from behind the counter and out of the store, leaving us and a line of other customers standing there looking after him. He ran down the hill and into another doorway (which we realized later was the store's warehouse) and a minute later ran back to us with a huge handful of the most fragrant and freshest basil ever.
The building was in excellent shape, very well equipped, very comfortable. It was fairly quiet, although you could hear some noise from the road at night if the windows were open.
There was a large first floor with a living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom and full-size bathroom. There was a large and private patio off the kitchen. The second floor, up a spiral staircase, had another bedroom and bathroom, and a large patio off the bedroom.
We had a lovely patio off the kitchen where we spent a lot of time and had most of our morning and evening meals. The patio was shaded by an olive trees and bouganvilla, and overlooked the Tyrrhenian Sea. Our landlord occasionally appeared to water the plants or bring us fresh linens but was not intrusive.
The villa was lovely and clean and well appointed and very comfortable. There was plenty of seating in all the rooms. There was a dining room table, large kitchen table, and a table on the patio where we could eat. Plenty of adequate living room sitting too.
The beds were very firm (not a problem for us). The bathrooms were nice, well-appointed although not luxurious.
Kitchen was excellent! Six burner gas stove, microwave, toaster, full size fridge, oven, lots of pots and pans (including some very good pans), plenty of dishes and serving dishes, and had a good-size table along with good counter space.
Problems or Bonuses
I knew the view was going to be good but it was exceptional. Lots and lots of stairs, but that just meant we didn't feel guilty about eating all the wonderful food or having an extra glass of wine.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Rentvillas was exceptional. I've used them twice now and would not hesitate to use them again. On site: Antonietta was friendly, professional, on time, and extremely helpful.

Things to do in this area
Walk, eat, visit the other coastal towns, and above all ask for the locals' recommendations when you're ordering in a restaurant or buying something in a shop. You will almost universally get the best of what they have to offer.
