apartments on estate near Arezzo, Tuscany East WhenDecember 2002, 9 days LocationI will write this quickly, but we really loved our experience, so a few words represent even more. It was in a small, pretty town next to a rushing waterfall and stream. Lovely. Easy walk to gelato and pizza. Very peaceful and restful. Nearby AmenitiesAbsolutely! A quaint gelato shop. Fantastic pizza. Even a hot chocolate shop nearby of all things. Restaurant in our place was the best food we had. We couldn't stay away from there. Nearest grocery store was 5 min. Big hypermart 15 min. away by car. The House/ApartmentAn old mill nicely refurbished. Perfectly suitable apartment with a lovely view. Our only wish was for better lighting. Everything was murky inside which was o.k. by candlelight, but not when we needed to see to cook or read! GardenYes! We had a private loggia overlooking the waterfall. One of the best rooms in the place we think. We didn't use it much, being that it was December, but we imagine at other times of year, it would be a definite plus. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasIt was simple but adequate. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was fine with plenty of linens. A baby bed was provided free of charge. One bathroom was fine and the shower and toiletries were nice. We would've loved a bathtub. KitchenYes, it was fine. We cooked a lovely osso buco Christmas Eve dinner there and had enough pots and pans etc. for it. I think it would be helpful to have staples such as a little flour, salt, pepper, sugar on hand for people to use as we had to buy all these things yet only use a little bit. (but we forgot garlic at the store and the restaurant cheerfully found us a head of garlic to use.) Problems or BonusesThe hospitality was just so much more pleasant and natural than we had hoped for especially traveling with a small baby. Erica and Maria were so helpful and sweet. We felt very at home and didn't want to leave. Agency and Representatives (and price)As stated above, just tremendously. They spoke English, were helpful with train schedules, e-mail, shopping, everything. I actually wanted to stop in just to say hello. And of course, they loved our baby so how could we not like them in return? Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Yes, we would love to go back and yes, we have already recommended La Ferriera to several people who are planning to go to Italy. Things to do in this areaThe on-site restaurant was fantastic, local cuisine. We went several times including a beautiful Christmas Day feast that lasted four hours and we enjoyed every minute. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. If you've got the money the nearby designer outlets are quite something to visit. Prada, etc. Siena, Cortona, Pienza, San Gimignano, all wonderful and of course a short train ride to Florence! This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
