The apartment was located on a street with many antique shops and other apartments, a few small businesses but only one block off a large busy street - Vitorrio Emanuel. It was a 10 minute walk to the Piazza Navona and the Campo dei Fiori. There was a bakery that also served pizza slices just across the street.

The building was well maintained, the owner lived in the building next door and there was a building maintenance person who was very helpful during our stay. Located on the 4th floor (5th in US), a small but functional elevator was available - we used it after a long day of sightseeing to get back up to the apartment.

The owner is very friendly and speaks English well. She offered to help us buy train tickets or make dinner reservations - not necessary because we had a purchased a phone for use in Europe and also had a laptop computer. The apartment has a wireless network connection which we had no problem using during our stay.

The apartment was quite spacious, with 12 ft. high ceilings in the living room and bedroom. Two sets of french doors in the living area and one in the bedroom opened on to a small balcony. There was no furniture for the balcony but it was nice to have the fresh air and you could stand comfortably and enjoy the street activity below. The kitchen was small but everything worked fine. There was a good supply of dishes, glassware, utensils and pans if you wanted to cook. We ate our lunch and dinner out but enjoyed having breakfast in the apartment each morning. There is a microwave, water heater for coffee and tea, Italian coffee maker, toaster. There was no dishwasher but there was a washing machine - a small amount of laundry detergent was supplied. The apartment was well stocked with supplies - paper towels, dish washing soap, napkins, trash bags - a few food items, tea bags, sugar, salt and pepper, as well as two bottles of water in the refrigerator and some cookies and bread to get us through until we were able to shop. In the bathroom, there was bath soap, hand soap and toilet paper. This was a nice surprise because we have rented apartments in other locations that had no supplies at all, it was nice to not have to buy basic supplies for only a four day stay.

The living room had a sofa bed to use if needed, a table with four chairs, a flat screen TV, DVD player and a stereo system. We turned the TV on to see if it worked (it did) but did not watch it during our stay. The bedroom was small but the queen bed was large enough for two people to sleep comfortably, mattress was comfortable and the bedding was in good condition. There were two end tables with a lamp on each side of the bed. There was a large walk in closet with shelves to store your clothing and an area to hang clothes.

Bathroom was small but had quite a few shelves and drawers for storage, a large sink, a toilet and a bidet. No bathtub, only a small shower which worked well, good water pressure and plenty of hot water. Two large towels were provided as well as several hand towels. The bathroom was off the bedroom so if four people were staying all would have to go through the bedroom to reach the bathroom.

There was an air conditioner which we only used once, the weather during our stay was nice - in the mid 80's and with the balcony doors open there was a nice breeze most of the time. The air conditioner worked well the day we used it and cooled the apartment well. There was a fan available in the bedroom since the air conditioner is in the living room area and might not be sufficient to cool the entire apartment in very hot weather.

The only drawback to this apartment was the street noise. Since we were only a block off the a very busy road it was quite noisy with the windows open during the day and most of the evening. It did quiet down after midnight until around 8am so you could sleep comfortably with the window open during the night but if you like to go to bed very early you would want to keep the windows closed and use the air conditioner. The noise was not bad with the windows closed.

The agency we used - Sleep in Italy - was very helpful and the booking process went very smoothly - we had no complaints. We paid a small deposit using our credit card but the balance owed had to be paid in cash to the owner.

We would not hesitate to rent this apartment again, overall it was a very positive experience.
