apartments on a farm near Deruta, Umbria

Le Case Coloniche, photo by Mac

When

October, 2010, four days

Location

We stayed at Contry House Le Case Coloniche at Vocabolo la Torre, Deruta, 06053. It is on the northern edge of Deruta in a lovely country area. You exit Deruta Nord, turn west then north at the stop sign to the first left. Even though you are close to S3 strata we never heard the road noise in our apartment It is the best of all worlds, being able to explore so many little villages like Deruta itself, Bevagna, Cortona, Orvieta, Assisi; most of Umbria is a day trip.

Nearby Amenities

There is a great restaurant on site along with a large breakfast room next to the office. In town, five minutes away by car, there is a supermercado that has everything you might want, as well as a few restaurants, to say nothing about the gorgeous ceramics!

The House/Apartment

The buildings while not historically old do have a history. The buildings were apart of a farming commune with several family's living there built in the early 1900's. Everything is in very good shape, clean and with flowers everywhere with nine apartments to choose from.

Garden

It has an ample sized free parking lot and Internet access by the pool with a large covered area with tables and chairs next to the pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in very good shape in the whole apartment with chairs for four people at the dinner table and four more at our little "private garden table" area out side our front door.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Our bed was very comfortable with a large bedroom and the bathroom next to it with its own door off a tiny "hall". The bathroom was a little smaller than the first apartment we were shown but we liked the location of the apartment.

Kitchen

The apartment had about 450 sq. ft. with refrigerator and stove with plenty of pots and pans to do your own cooking. Even though we didn't cook as we had a limited amount of time we did make our own coffee and bought cold cuts, bread for sandwiches and veggies for salads.

Problems or Bonuses

There is a laundry room with washing machine and dryer for 8. Bicycles to rent to explore the area or ride to town a real plus if you do not have a car.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked through Booking.com and they gave us all the info we needed and Daniele at the office of Le Coloniche was above and beyond with his help using very good English. The Booking.com website did a great job accurately describing the accommodations and the pictures are what you get when you arrive, above though you can see a direct link to Le Coloniche's website. We payed 50 for the one night in September and 45 a night the three in October.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We will be returning to that Le Case Coloniche, it is perfect being economical and comfortable with the perfect location to explore Umbria with helpful people manning it!

Things to do in this area

Our first day we went to Montalcino and Montepulciano, a bit too far and a story too itself but it was a personal thing for us. We were going to Montefalco but Daniele said to try Bevagna first as it was on the way, we just loved the town and stayed there the whole afternoon. Next day we took in Deruta then a trip to Assisi which took about 25 minutes and was worth the evening we stayed there. The Sunday trip to Cortona was fast with no traffic making our stay easy but during the week it could be a of a hassle. We were in range of a lot of places to see but took our time and enjoyed our four days so much we have to go back.
