Review 4821: Owner, al Capo (#255237)
2bed/2bath apartment in Palermo, Sicily
October 2010, 4 days
The apartment is directly above the Il Capo Market in central Palermo. This was fabulous from a shopping perspective, but the neighborhood is a little marginal. If you come in and out via Porta Carini it's just fine, but I would not walk south from there when the market is closed.
The market downstairs was fabulous! It was so hard to not buy everything! And the Trattoria across the street was very good.
The apartment is on the second floor (third floor U.S.) and comprises the upper two floors of the building.
The apartment itself was peaceful. The apartment below didn't seem to be occupied so no noise from there, but there were often children riding vespas along the street at night and of course the noise carries up. Since there is not air-conditioning you end up leaving the windows open when you're at home, otherwise it wouldn't be as noticeable.
You can view the property directly: al Capo.
There is a nice little exterior terrace but it rained during much of our visit so we didn't take advantage of it.
All of the furniture was in good condition and some was very nice. The living room/loft area was a bit jumble sale, but totally serviceable. Meanwhile the dining room was just lovely and I would have happily transported the entire room home with me.
The beds were fine (especially for Italy) The bathrooms were both nice.
The kitchen was nice and well furnished with dishes, pots pans etc. I wish it had been cooler so we could have taken fuller advantage of it.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We ended up here at the last minute as there was a problem with our original apartment, and the owner was very nice. He met us in downtown Palermo (where the airport bus drops you off) and drove us and all the luggage straight to the apartment. He took time to make sure we knew how to use everything, Recommended a nearby restaurant etc.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would only stay here again myself in the winter as I'm overly sensitive to heat/humidity, but for the vast majority of people I think it would be fine.
Things to do in this area
Trattoria Supra I Mura across the street was quite good.
