3bed/1bath apartment near Taurasi, Campania WhenOct. 2010, 8 nights LocationThe house is about 6 km from the village of Taurasi in the Irpinia zone of Campania. It is in the country, in the midst of vineyards and with some great views of the surrounding countryside. There are a couple of other houses close by, but none that felt too close. We felt we had great privacy. The apartment is on the second floor, which ensures further privacy. We loved the area, the vineyards, the little villages, and the kind people. Of course, the wines are wonderful! Nearby AmenitiesYou have to drive to get coffee or groceries. The closest grocery stores are about 5 km away. The same goes from restaurants although there aren't many restaurants in most of the small villages (maybe one or two per village). There is one restaurant that is less than 1 km away. The House/ApartmentThe building is a two-story house, with one apartment on the first floor and one on the second. It is a relatively new building. It is in a very peaceful environment, with beautiful views. The house is in very good shape, clean, and very well equipped. The apartment has three bedrooms arranged in a circle around the hallway, a kitchen, and a spacious bathroom. It is new, well furnished, and very clean. It is very private and comfortable. GardenThere is a shared outside sitting area that would be perfect for picnics. There is no pool. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in great shape and comfortable. The apartment was very clean. There were four chairs in the kitchen, so more chairs would be needed if more than four people were staying in the apartment. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds are very comfortable and the bedrooms are quite spacious and with ample storage space. The bathroom is quite spacious and modern. KitchenThe kitchen is extremely usable. There were enough pots and pans to cook full meals and enough plates. Everything was of great quality. We enjoyed cooking a number of meals. It was very obvious that someone had put a lot of thought into what one might need in order to cook a full meal. Problems or BonusesThe surprises were all great: very welcoming and friendly owner (with excellent English skills), well equipped and clean apartment, excellent surroundings. Agency and Representatives (and price)We dealt with the owner, Milena, who is very professional, kind, and speaks perfect English. She responds to emails promptly, answers questions, and offers much great advice on things to do and see in the area. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would stay there in a heartbeat. Actually, we are hoping to go back next year with some friends for another visit, especially since the apartment would be perfect for six adults. It is one of the best vacation rentals we have ever seen. Things to do in this areaThere are a lot of wineries to visit and also artisanal food producers (an extensive list is provided in Carla Capalbo's book The Food and Wine Guide to Naples and Campania). There is a good wine bar in the village of Taurasi that sells the wines of local producers. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
