2bed/1bath apartment near San Lorenzo, Florence WhenNovember 2010, one week LocationWell located within a gelato shop or two from the Duomo on a pedestrian street in the heart of Florence. Located up three flights of stairs in the rear of the building which contains several apartments offered by the owner. Nearby AmenitiesThe apartment, Dei, was well located near just about anything you'd want to see or do. A block from a supermarket, near restaurants and gelato shops and other needed shops like wine, shoe, clothing, etc. The central market is two blocks away, the train station is only 10 walking minutes away and even tourist sites such as Pitti Palace, Boboli gardens, Ponte vecchio are short walks away. The House/ApartmentBuilding was in fine shape and easily entered from the street although to get to the Dei apartment a vigorous climb is necessary but not a problem even for us 70 year plus grandfathers. There were many apartments in the building but absolutely no noise or disturbance from anyone. Despite being located on a very busy pedestrian street, because the Dei apartment is at the rear of the building it was very quiet. GardenNo Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFurniture was OK, the apartment was very clean. Pretty basic but quite comfortable for the three of us. Bedrooms/BathroomsThere was one bedroom with a king size bed and the second had twin beds. The beds were comfortable and there was sufficient closet and drawer space. There was one bathroom with a stall shower that was fine. KitchenWe only used the kitchen facilities for breakfast and light lunches but it would have been fine for cooking full meals. Plenty of pots, pans, dishes and glasses. Problems or BonusesOnly surprise was that there was not a wine bottle opener. Horrors! But easily remedied and we weren't deprived of our vino rosso. Agency and Representatives (and price)Gianna was pleasant to deal with and quickly responded. Rental was paid in two parts, a deposit upon making a reservation and the balance upon arrival. Both can be handled with a credit card. Cost was €950 for the week. Gabriella who is the manager was quickly available when we arrived and responded immediately when we had a minor problem. She spoke English very well and was quite helpful. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? We would stay here again although my preference in Florence is the Oltrarno location where we have stayed previously. However the San Lorenzo location was perfect for our needs, which involved taking trains and buses for day trips. The several positive reviews that have been posted are well earned. Only downside would be the climb to the apartment for some people. Things to do in this areaAs mentioned above the location is near just about everything in Florence and you are only limited by your own choices. We had several good restaurant experience but we did not eat in any in the vicinity of the apartment. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
