2bed/2bath apartment in Sorrento, Campania

When

November 2010, one week

Location

Villa Donna Elisa is located in a wonderful garden/orchard gated position within a five minute walk of Piazza Tasso, the center or Sorrento, overlooking the Bay of Naples. It was very private and probably as nice as you could possibly want.

Nearby Amenities

The location is close to central Sorrento within easy walking of restaurants, supermarket, center of town, rail/bus station and directly across from the town car park. You do not need nor probably want a car at this villa.

The House/Apartment

Villa Donna Elisa is one of the two most wonderful rentals of many we have rented throughout Italy. The second floor of the villa has the one apartment that is rented. The ground floor is occupied by the owner, the wonderfully gracious Donna Elisa. There were three of us grandfathers thoroughly enjoying this rental. One goes up one flight of interior stairs to the private apartment entrance. The first room is a library/reading area. The two bedrooms each have a bath with shower - one a stall shower the other over the bathtub. There is a large living room/eating area overlooking the garden and bay view. The kitchen is nearby and very well equipped. Entrance to the villa is through a locked gate and down a path to the entrance to the home. The furnishings and cleanliness of the villa is beyond reproach.

Garden

There is a garden as you enter the property that extends beyond the home toward the property line with a drop dead view of the bay. The home had four outdoor terraces (one outside each bedroom) and one near the living room as well as a second outside the master bedroom. Three of the terraces had views of the bay and all had garden views. It was a very private area that was only available to the renters and the owner who was present but not obvious. No pool.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Everything was more than ample and comfortable. Excellent furniture, numerous paintings, books and all the creature conveniences we needed or wanted.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The beds were great. The master bedroom had a king size bed and the other had a king that could be divided into twin beds. We each wanted our own bed and were not disappointed. The baths were spacious and conveniently located.

Kitchen

Everything was great. Dishwasher, washing machine, plenty of dishes, glasses, utensils, pots/pans, etc. We used it for breakfast and light cheese/salami/wine preparation. It was larger than any kitchen I'd seen in an Italian rental.

Problems or Bonuses

VRBO had a number of very positive comments by previous renters. I've tended to discount reviews in the renters' write up on their offering site. However in this case they were absolutely correct. Anyone who would not love this rental doesn't deserve to go to Italy.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Bruno of Villatorent was very efficient and prompt in his responses. His instructions on the location could have been clearer but that was a minor issue. A deposit of 25% was made by credit card upon reservation and the balance due in cash upon arrival. A 200 security deposit was noted but not collected from us. (I suspect that we three well-aged grandfathers did not appear dangerous enough to warrant collecting the deposit!).

The rental was 1600 for one week.

Donna Elisa (whose family owned the Royal Hotel) lives on the lower floor and is a charming lady who was happy to be of assistance. She's there but respects your privacy.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Absolutely! Read the reviews on VRBO and believe them.

Things to do in this area

Literally everything is within walking distance of the villa. Circumvesuvian train is about one hour to Naples and 40 minutes to Pompei. Bus service is convenient to Positano, Amalfi and other Amalfi coast towns. Boat service is available from Sorrento to Amalfi towns, Capri, Naples, Ischia. Note: after October there is limited service to Capri and Naples only I believe.
