Review 4858: Palazzetto da Schio, Apartment
apartments in Dorsoduro, Venice
Sept 2010, 2 weeks
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at this property so much that we repeated our 2008 trip to Venice, and chose to stay in the exact same one bedroom apartment. Two bed, two bath are also available at the Palazzetto da Schio. Use the above website to view this enchanting and affordable private property, in a genuine residential area.
We stayed in apt. #5, which is one floor up from street level, in the rear and overlooking a lovely garden. It had more than enough space to be extremely comfortable. I really loved the large window in the bathroom ... again, overlooking the garden. There is a large claw foot tub/shower, and a rose color antique marble counter, set on an antique chest which has been refitted for the large sink.
All the windows are large and open wide to lovely views. The furnishings are family pieces and many are very old, and all are so beautiful, but not overly formal. Very comfortable for people who appreciate fine furniture and are gentle with other's belongings. Contessa Anna da Schio will tell you the history of the Palazzetto, and its treasures, if you are interested. For us, the Contessa herself was the very best part of our two week stays (in 2008 and again in 2010). She is so interesting, and so helpful with everything. It is one of the greatest pleasures of my life to know her!
We absolutely loved attempting to live the life of a real Venetian. We shopped at the Billa supermarket, which is about a 20 minute walk. It has everything you could want, and the apartment has a shopping cart available for use. It was just wonderful to have a big breakfast of anything you choose. We just loved the Doge's Bread from Billa, a sweet and substantial bread to dunk in your morning coffee.
Contessa Anna gave us good directions for getting a Venetian Resident Vaporetto Pass, which saved us money as we used it quite a bit during both of our two week stays in Venice.
We did a lot of reading and studying before both of these of these trips and all of it served us well, as we felt prepared and comfortable once we arrived. We only used public transportation, no need for an expensive water taxi. We felt completely safe at all times. Things were not as expensive as we thought they would be. Everything is as beautiful as the photos in books, and you will take so, so many of your own photos.
Every day in Venice was so special and the evenings even more so! We spent many of the warm September evenings in Piazza San Marco listening and dancing to the gorgeous music being played by the four orchestras. And to return "home" to the Palazzetto after a full day was so nice. Such a beautiful and comfortable and convenient place to stay, and enjoy a glass of Prosecco at the end of the day. It was heaven on earth. We both enjoyed our stays in Venezia, and found it very emotional to leave this most special city, and most special accommodation. We hope to be fortunate enough to once again stay at Palazzetto da Schio, and visit with Contessa Anna and play with Webby, her adorable dog.
We truly left our hearts at the Palazzetto, in Venice.
