1bed/1bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice WhenOctober 2010, 10 days LocationThe apartment is in the Cannaregio section of Venice, close to the train station (10 minute walk) and San Marcuola vaporetto stop (around the corner.) The location is fairly central, and one of my favorite areas to stay when I am in Venice. Nearby AmenitiesThere are plenty of bars and restaurants within a 10 minute walk or less. A large Billa supermarket is a five minute walk; there is a smaller supermarket closer. The House/ApartmentThe building is definitely a residential building, and lived in. There is not much noise from the other tenants but there is noise from a small canal outside. You will hear the garbage "barge" every day at 8am and it is not quiet. There are two or three other apartments in the building. One of them is occupied by the owner of this rental. GardenThere is no outside sitting area, but there are many cafes and bars in the neighborhood where one can go to sit outside. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe main furniture in the living room is a large dining table. There is a small couch that I did not use. I was not there very much so it was fine for me. Anyone who wants to lounge around on a couch and watch TV should not choose this apartment (there is no TV, and the couch is probably not the best for lounging.) There are plenty of chairs. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedroom has closets but much of them are filled with the owners stuff - plates, glasses, and other stuff, which you can use, I guess, if you need to. The bed was very comfy. There are a lot of books in the room and this leaves a bit of a musty smell. KitchenThe kitchen has a professional range! There are lots of pots and pans in the apartment, but I could have used a toaster. I did not cook a lot but I think it would be fine for cooking full meals. There is a dishwasher for dishes, but not one for clothes - could have used one for clothes more than dishes. Problems or BonusesThis is an owner-direct apartment in the budget category - no surprises good or bad in this regard. Agency and Representatives (and price)Luciana, the owner, is very nice and responds to emails quickly in English. Apartments in Venice are expensive - I had to search long and hard to find one in my budget and this apartment was exactly what I was looking for. I paid €550 euros for 10 days stay, all inclusive. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I absolutely would stay here again. Despite the owners stuff being in and around the apartment (which usually kind of bugs me) I felt quite at home in this apartment. The only bad things I can think of are the noise on the canal in the morning - especially if you want to sleep in - but having the canal right there is pretty cool, too. The apartment is not uber-clean and people who want spotless floors should probably not stay here. Things to do in this areaI love La Cantina Wine Bar about five minutes walk east. There are lots of things to do in the area that many tourists don't see - like the Ghetto for instance. It is a great neighborhood to stay in.
