Review 4883: Corte Bebbi, Apartment
Apartments and rooms on estate in Bibbiano, Emilia-Romagna
October 2010, 1 week
Corte Bebbi is conveniently located off the A1, in the small village of Bibbiano. From here one can easily drive to Reggio Emilia, Parma, Bologna, Montova, Modena and more. One day we chose to drive into Reggio Emilia to take the train into Bologna rather than having to worry about parking in the larger city.
Corte Bebbi is located just off the main road through Bibbiano, and although you could walk to shops from there the road is rather narrow (especially when cars decide to stop and park on the side of the road!). I don't think it would be dangerous to walk, but with children I would just be aware. Everything you need is within a few minutes drive - a small grocery and pharmacy are right in town, along with a bakery, bar, gift shop etc. More (and larger) shops are within a few minutes drive.
Once you enter the main gates of Corte Bebbi, located right in the center of the small village of Bibbiano you enter another world. The large courtyard offers plenty of parking and the grounds, complete with pool and a huge patio area will make you want to wander and relax.
The two bedroom, two bath apartment we rented was upstairs, above the old stables. Everything has been lovingly restored by the owner, and no detail has been forgotten. The private patio comes complete with table, chairs and a barbecue grill. The apartment itself is fantastic, featuring both air conditioning and heating, making this an ideal place to say no matter what the season.
The master bedroom is large with plenty of storage, it's own bathroom (shower only, no tub) and access to a small covered balcony. The second bedroom, while better suited for use as a single, could realistically sleep two people as long as one of them is a toddler. We used this bedroom as our home office, taking advantage of the fold-away desk and the free WiFi that Corte Bebbi offers. There is plenty of drawer and hanging space, as well as storage space for luggage.
The second bathroom, located off the hall has a shower too, and also a washing machine. The kitchen is well organized and has just about anything you might need - the standards like pots, pans, and dishes, but also things like a bottle warmer and plastic containers with lids for storage. The dishwasher was also a nice treat!
The living/dining room is open to the kitchen and overlooks the patio area from the Juliet balcony, making it light and bright. The house also has nice cross ventilation.
There is also a small studio apartment and several rooms for rent. The room rentals include a bountiful breakfast. Although breakfast is not included for the apartment rental we stopped by to speak with our host, Barbara, one morning and saw how large the breakfast was!
The grounds are beautiful. At one end of the property is a nice pool surrounded by a very large patio area and lots of grass. At the other end, where our apartment was located was a small garden area that was beautiful as well, and it could be enjoyed from our private patio.
Everything was in good repair - the bed was comfortable, the chairs were sturdy and everything worked as promised. We initially had a problem with the dishwasher but it was taken care of while we were out for the day. Everything was clean and well organized.
Problems or Bonuses
The only surprise we had at Borte Bebbi was how truly convenient it was - looking at the map had made me hopeful, but sometimes you just don't know until you get there. Additionally we were very, very appreciative of everything our host, Barbara did to make us feel welcome and to help us enjoy the area.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We were there in low season and paid €450, plus €50 for cleaning. Rates are slightly higher in high season, and there are discounts for multi-week stays. I'd love to stay here in the winter for a month or so to really explore the area!
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Absolutely! We give Corte Bebbi and its owners the highest of recommendations! The location was wonderful, the apartment was comfortable and our host, Barbara was so welcoming and helpful - one morning she took us to a local farm to watch the entire Parmesan cheese-making process. She also arranged for us to visit a local balsamic vinegar production and was able to answer all our questions and make many suggestions about where to go, how to get there and what to see.
Things to do in this area
Corte Bebbi is located in Emilia Romagna, home to the king of cheeses, Parmigiano Reggiano, as well as Parma ham, prosciutto, balsamic vinegar and more - a food lover's paradise! We ate well everywhere we went and once again our host Barbara was able to make recommendations.
