2bed/2.5bath cottage in Villadeati, Piemonte WhenSeptember 2009, two weeks LocationA tiny ecclesiastical town, an ancient yet comfortably updated farmhouse, views (on a clear day) of the Alps and innumerable villages dotting every hill in sight and the most informative and friendly host in Italy - who could ask for more? Only 12 km from Asti with the best of Piemonte wine country within a hour's reach. Nearby AmenitiesA car is a must to go shopping. There are grocery stores in nearby villages and a large hypermart about 20 minutes away. The House/ApartmentLa Vista is a restored, attached farmhouse at the end of a private lane. The owner has done an impeccable job of restoration and furnishing. There is a formal dining room, a very large kitchen/family room, a two single bed bedroom and one and a half baths on the first floor. There is a large reading/TV/lounging room and a bedroom on the second floor. The key impression is homeyness and comfort. We felt like we were staying in someone's home. GardenThere are several private outdoor areas with a patio off the family room, a separate outdoor dining area and a lovely garden from which you can see the Alps (depending on the time of year). The views are fantastic. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasLa Vista was furnished with great care, using antiques and very comfortable chairs. There were just three of us, so there were plenty of chairs. There is a largish table off the kitchen where we ate most of our meals. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were comfortable and the bathrooms just redone before our visit. They were impeccably clean. KitchenThis was a fun kitchen to cook in with plenty of prep space and a full range of plates and utensils. Since it looks out onto the family room, I was able to cook and converse with my family at the same time. Problems or BonusesThe surprise was how gracious and helpful our hosts Toni and Roberto were. Toni has a wealth of knowledge about the area and proved invaluable in providing guidance. Agency and Representatives (and price)Everything was as promised on the web site. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely! To be honest, I would like to own La Vista. Things to do in this areaWine tasting, photographing the hill towns, wandering around Alba and Asti, day trips to Torino not to be missed). Essentially, slowing down and seeing Italy at the perfect pace. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
