2bed/1bath apartment in Montefioralle, Tuscany Chianti

02 October - 09 October 2010, One week

Our second week in Italy was spent in the lovely small village of Montefioralle, which is on a hill outside Greve in Chianti. The village has no shops but does have two restaurants, neither of which we visited. Quite a few tourists visit the village but it is still quiet. Car parking is in the town square, a short walk from the apartment. We shopped in Greve.

The apartment is below the owner's residence but is quite private and opens onto the street. The owners were picking their grapes and a bottle of their Chianti Classico was waiting for us. Guiliana was very friendly and speaks good English.

The apartment consists of a kitchen/dining/sitting room and then four or five steps up to the two large double bedrooms and bathroom. Everything was clean and in good condition. We thought it a lovely apartment. There were some nice vases and paintings scattered around.

The kitchen was well equipped with a full stove and everything needed to cook. There was a table and four chairs, a two-seat couch and TV. We were very comfortable but it could be a bit crowded with four. There were a couple of magazines about Tuscany but not much information. Any reading material (novels) I could find was in German and there was no guest book. I enjoy reading guest books in rentals and find they are mostly in English owned places.

Both bedrooms were large with plenty of cupboard space and bed-lamps. There were shutters on the windows. The bed in our room was the biggest I've seen. Linen was provided. The bathroom was fine. The second bedroom was also roomy with a double (maybe queen) bed. Not sure if there is the option of singles.

This area needs no introduction and we enjoyed our week here. We tend to travel slightly off season and the weather was lovely - not too hot or cold. Not sure how it would be in a hot summer as there did not appear to be air-conditioning and there is no pool. However the apartment is lovely and the setting wonderful. I have seen comments about walking up to Montefioralle from Greve, but it is a steep drive and I would not want to walk it often. We found it a good base to explore the region (see my trip report) and Greve has all facilities and is well served by buses. After 17 weeks in France and Italy I still cannot get used to things shutting for lunch (maybe we need to slow down!). The supermarket shut from 1-4 and did not open on Sunday. Other than Paris, this was our dearest rental. However at 350 per week it was still good value.

You can view the apartment directly: La Loggetta.
