rooms and apartments on a farm near Capannori Lucca, Tuscany North

When

April 2011, 6 days

Location

Located about 15 minutes from Lucca on an olive tree farm. It's on a hill and has a gorgeous view. There are several old buildings and some newer buildings on the property. Most of them have a kitchen and living room and three to four bedrooms with bath that can be rented alone or as a house. Perfect for family reunions or a romantic getaway for two. Up a slight hill with an even more beautiful view is a swimming pool. Tennis is also available. This area is not only close to Lucca, you can also visit Pisa, Cinque Terra, beach towns or mountain villages.

Nearby Amenities

There are several good restaurants and stores within a 10 minute drive. There are suggestions and directions available in the room and the office was very helpful as well. Breakfast is included and you can sign up at breakfast for a four course dinner. Dinner was reasonable home Italian, including some of their excellent estate olive oil. The pasta was especially good.

The House/Apartment

There were several other rentals available including some long term rentals. Our building was two stories. The first story was a lobby and two bedrooms with bath. They were clean and well furnished. The second floor had an additional bedroom, a kitchen, dining room, living room with a TV (probably not any English channels which was OK), and an outdoor space.

Garden

There was a lovely pool with a spectacular view. The outside sitting area around the pool was nice and there was also an area outside the building.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was appropriately rustic and very comfortable. I was very happy with the atmosphere. The room was cleaned each day. There were ample chairs.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Bathroom was excellent, beds comfortable.

Kitchen

We did not use the kitchen but it was certainly more than adequate and there was a large dining room table.

Problems or Bonuses

This is definitely more beautiful than the pictures. The surrounding gardens were in full bloom. I just can't wait to go back.

WiFi Internet access is not available in the room. You have to go near the office to access it, a four to five minute walk. Since this was a vacation, I definitely did not mind.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The price was very reasonable especially since it included breakfast. You can book by the day, which is good as many places want a week, Saturday to Saturday. I have worked with Classic Vacation Rentals two other times. Each time she has given us outstanding accommodations, places we would not necessarily have found on our own. Carina has visited all the places she books and will work with you to find what is right for your desires and budget. Her places run in the moderate to expensive range. Considering the quality of the places she has found for us, it is well worth it. She does both hotels and Bed and Breakfasts and apartments. This one was kind of a combination as it included breakfast but also had a kitchen. She also has contacts in Italy who will arrange special tours - wine olive oil, balsamic vinegar, cars, you name it. I normally plan trips on my own with the Internet, so I am a good trip planner; but even so I plan to use her for my Italian (She also does France)trips. We definitely have had experiences we would not have had without her help.

The owner, his charming daughter and the assistant all spoke English very well. They found a place for me to buy an adapter for my GPS, arranged for me to rent a wheelchair for my husband in Lucca, and gave us very precise directions.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Not only would I stay there again, I definitely plan to come again as I have not seen all the sights and I really love the area.

Things to do in this area

Pisa, Lucca, Cinque Terra, Carrera, mountain villages, all are nearby. It's about 1 1/2 hours from Florence so you could also spend a day there.
