Review 4984: Owner, Il Sogno

Review by Louisa from CA

2bed/2bath apartment in Casperia, Lazio

April 1 - April 8, 2011, 1 week

Il Sogno is located in the hill town of Casperia. We enjoyed the drive from Rome, such beautiful countryside. There are no cars allowed into the village, there is ample parking in the car park on the outskirts of the village. Il Sogno is located inside the walls of the city and there are many steps to get there, it's a bit of a hike, but we managed fine and enjoyed walking around up and down all the steps.

Casperia is such a beautiful town! The views are spectacular. The town feels like a small town, people are friendly and helpful. Almost everything you need is there, a bank, grocery store, post office, bakery, butcher shop, coffee bar, and restaurants. We loved the time we spent in Casperia, we found we didn't need to travel to other cities to find things to do. We enjoyed the slower pace of Casperia.

Nearby Amenities

We spent most of our time in Casperia and enjoyed walking everywhere. We bought groceries and cooked most of our meals at il Sogno. Of course we managed to visit a few of the restaurants, we enjoyed several meals at L'Asprese, which was a short walk from Casperia. The Friends Bar was an excellent choice for coffee and pastry for breakfast and a quick coffee anytime (the girls there were great, we enjoyed practicing our Italian with them). We did have a car and found driving the countryside an enjoyable way to spend the day. We visited many of the hill towns that were close by.

The House/Apartment

Il Sogno is a wonderfully restored apartment. There are two bedrooms and 1 1/2 baths. The main bedroom is upstairs in the main part of the apartment, there is also the kitchen, dining room, living room and a huge bathroom with a lovely tub/shower. The second bedroom and 1/2 bath (toilet and sink) is located downstairs. The furnishings are lovely and comfortable. The master bedroom has plenty of closet space and storage and a fantastic view from the window. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen was well-appointed. We cooked many of our meals and enjoyed them either in the dining room or in the garden. There is a dishwasher as well as a clothes washer and drying rack. We found that everything we needed for a relaxing trip was right at our fingertips. The apartment was clean and very well maintained. The living room has plenty of books to read and there is a CD player for music.

There is a garden which has a table and chairs. We enjoyed our meals there. There are grapevines and many some herbs growing (you can clip some for cooking). The plants are lovely and the garden was very peaceful. We were there when the weather was delightful and enjoyed sitting in the sun, listening to and watching the birds. The garden is gated and fairly private.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was comfortable and in good shape. There was plenty of chairs and spots to get comfortable. The apartment was clean and very well maintained. The dining room table was spacious and lovely. There is wireless Internet available which made it very easy to keep in touch while we were away.

The master bedroom (we didn't use the second bedroom) was great. We slept so soundly. Everything was clean and in good shape. There is a fireplace in the master bedrooms, it didn't get cold enough when we were there, would have loved to use it. The bathroom was amazing, with all the tile and the beautiful tub/shower, with a nice rain-type shower head.

The kitchen was clean and it everything was in good shape. There is a very nice stove and refrigerator. There were plenty of pots, pans, and dishes. We loved cooking our meals there. The kitchen was big enough for the two of us to cook together, there is plenty of counter space.

Problems or Bonuses

It was really interesting staying in a place (il Sogno and Casperia both) that is so old, yet so modern. What a lovely place!

We went to Italy during the off-season and as we expected a lot of things were closed, but we wanted to experience Italy, to live like an Italian and il Sogno and Casperia were perfect for that.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner, Chris, was very helpful, answering our many questions. He provided a lot of information and made me feel comfortable on our first trip to Italy. We communicated easily by e-mail. Everything he told us about il Sogno and Casperia and the area was spot on.

Rosella greeting us in Casperia and led us to il Sogno. She was gracious and helpful. Her English is limited but we were able to communicate well. We really enjoyed meeting her.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We highly recommend il Sogno! I can't wait to go back again.

Things to do in this area

Make sure and get a tart from the pastry shop by the post office. Wow, are they good! We especially enjoyed visiting Roccantica and Farfa.
