1bed/1bath apartment in Cannaregio, Venice WhenMay 23 - 28, 2011, 6 nights LocationThe apartment is located in the Cannaregio district of Venice, overlooking Campo Santi Apostoli, just steps from the Ca' D'Oro vaporetto stop. The location is lovely, with a canal view on one side and a view of the campo on the other. Nearby AmenitiesEverything you need is nearby -- coffee shop and bakery just across the street, Billa supermarket about two blocks away, restaurants in the in nearby side streets. The House/ApartmentThe building itself is beautiful. The entryway is surrounded by a garden full of flowers. The apartment is situated on the top floor of the building and accessed by either stairs (six flights) or an elevator (modern and relatively large) that opens directly into the apartment (accessible only with a key). Because the apartment was so high up, it was very quiet and extremely private; we saw only a couple of other building residents during our stay. You can view the property directly: Ca Bellini. GardenThe apartment has a small, private terrace at the very top of the building. You climb one short flight of stairs from the apartment's hallway to the terrace. There is room for only two chairs and a small table, but the view across the rooftops of Venice is wonderful. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture in the apartment is fairly new and in very good shape. The living room, though oddly shaped (long and narrow) has plenty of seating -- two fairly large couches. The dining area is small, but large enough for four chairs around a small table, and the view out the many windows makes up for the crowded space. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bedroom is quite large -- a king-sized bed, a desk and chair, an over-sized ottoman, two closets and a dresser. The bed is comfortable, though I found the pillows thin and lumpy (this may just be a personal preference). The bathroom is also very nice and relatively spacious. The shower is excellent -- large with plenty of hot water and good water pressure. You do have to climb two fairly steep stairs to get in and out of the bathroom, which isn't really a problem, but just something to be aware of. KitchenWe didn't cook any full meals, but the kitchen was well equipped with all of the appliances one needs as well as a good selection of pots, pans, knives and dishes. It also has a dishwasher and a washing machine, which we found very helpful. Problems or BonusesOnly one negative -- we had specifically reserved an apartment with air conditioning as we both hate to try to sleep in hot weather. Our week in Venice was hot, and when we arrived the air conditioning in the apartment did not work. It could not be fixed for almost three days, and although the owner brought us a fan, it made for a couple of miserable nights. Agency and Representatives (and price)Views on Venice was good -- responsive before our rental and easy to work with. Our on-site agent was helpful and friendly and spoke excellent English. Our only complaint was the air conditioning, which we felt should have been repaired more quickly and/or that we should have been offered a slight reduction in price since we paid a higher rate to get air-conditioning.
